Any cops here?

Driving back to school tonight on the Mass pike I saw a Black Crown Vic that no one was willing to pass, including myself. Upon closer inspection I noticed it looked like the crown vic has some sort of tinted windows and a small antenna on the trunk. It was kind of hard to see since it was dark out. It also had a customized license plate "A 990" Obviously this guy appeared to be a cop and I'm thinking if he is his customized license plate says something funny in cop speak. S does anyone know what a 990 is.

I don't want to speak out of place but it seems that the "boys in blue" on this board like to keep things on the down low. Probably has something to do with the "hey buddy can ya fix this ticket for me" sydrome.

No worries on the Mass. pike. Driving home from Maine I was cruising at a steady 90 and had to move over for a state trooper. The other cars in the left lane did the same and the trooper was on his way.

My father in law has a retired Crown Vic Police Interceptor - outboard spotlight and all - and raves that he gets "a lot of respect" while driving that car. It's actually a damn solid car, esp considering how much it cost (not much!)

I've often toyed with the idea of a Crown Vic as a daily driver...order it black, steel wheels, etc. You'd probably have clear sailing in the left lane...like Moses parting the sea.

As a cop, I don't think the Crown Vic was a police car. They are owned by the agency we work for and we would not put personal plates on them. Most police cars, including "slicks", have government plates on them. It may be different in other states though. I speak of California.

I'm not a cop and I have no idea what 990 means.

I saw a cop and a large African American guy about to go at it near my old house in Austin. I called 911 and told there was a cop about to get the ***** be out of him (my exact words). They said they already new. When I came out of the store where I made call. There was a black car with dark tinted windows with a red light on the dash hauling a$$ toward the scene with more marked cars in tow. Very Hollywood looking and cool. The cop was OK, a large good samaritan came up behind the other guy and took him down. In case your wondering why he didn't pull his gun, try pulling a gun out with someone right there.

This does make sense as most goverment vehicles do have the goverment plates around here, it tends to be an easy way to spot them.

Here in Florida, I've seen unmarked city police with regular license tags, same with sherrif and FHP. Even non-"cop car" type cars, like SUVs, etc. They all have *really* dark tinted windows though.

No inference here that you are....

It's just that there may be folks on the board that would be sensitive to such a statement that is generic in nature but just had to have that "added" fact.

Myself, doesn't bother me but it may bother someone else...

No biggy..

Does it? or does it show your power of observation and attention to detail. Would it imply your "prejudice" if your description were " a very large african american man wearing a silver kenneth cole dress shirt and grey slacks, he had a verizon model1XX cell phone holstered on a gucci leather belt i think his shoes were black." ?
Your description was complete enough convey the message you wanted to share with the group with out triggering any outbreaks of ADD. When does attention to detail become an issue of prejudice?

Because a large white guy probaby would have been drunk/stoned/tweaked off his ass and got the shiite kicked out of him.

Point taken however;

I think you know understand the nature of my statement.

nature of your statement? What are you, the PC police? If I notice a black guy, I notice a black guy. By noticing but pretending you didn't, or intentionally leaving details out, it shows just as much prejudice.

They have a big police auction here every year & sell their old crown vics and anything else impounded for evidence, etc. They had some very, very nice cars sell really cheap the time I went.
