Mike - Mul is a real person, called Jason, and he hasn't really hidden that fact on the BBS. The info is out there hiding amongst his 20+ posts a day. Speeder knows him, he drives a (very nice) Mitsi Evo, and has been along to one of the organised drives. I'm sure in real life he's a nice guy, but on the internet he has no tact --> the phrase "start a fight in an empty room" comes to mind.

I'm responding less because I can't be bothered - it takes to much time and he's so freakin' tenacious (even when demonstrably wrong --> mostly because I think being wrong is not actually something Mul understands).

Several of you guys seem to love to rally around the fact that Mul doesn't drive a Porsche, and therefore, has no business posting here. Refering to him as a "troll". Truth be told, IIRC, Mul was actually invited here by one of the people he seems to be on the opposite side of any given issue from (Speeder - one of the few liberals here who's opinion I respect, even though we rarely see eye to eye on them )

And yet, those same few individuals who feel Mul should leave, have no problems with someone like cool_chick posting HER thoughts and ideals here. AFAIK, she doesn't even own a Porsche, nor a BMW for that matter. Yeah, sure, maybe she's gone for a ride in one or the other, but own one? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

I agree, everyone should have a reasonable expectation to privacy. In a perfect world that would be the norm. Banking, medical records, driving records....etc. We ALL know how private those are....

As one who has been on this list from the beginning I have made friends, sold stuff, bought stuff, bought parts from the provider of this service. As a result my pictures, my bio, my ideals are are open book.

Now late comers are taking advantage of the rules and hiding while trolling for adverse reactions. I feel that the rules need to be changed. As such, I have asked the moderators to require OT posters to disclose their real identities.

This is a public forum. Just as if, so to speak, a public square of the city in which you live.

One would not expect to see an old time public square speaker with a burlap bag over their head or George Will writing under a nom de plume, Rush Limbaugh speaking through a voice masker, or Al Franken with a rubber mask....OK bad example...Franken would need a mask.

Masking ones ID, intimidates others...heck, it bugs the he!! out me. I simply want to know who I am dealing with. Not to hunt down and give a noogie to.....simply to know what's behind the mask.....it also makes people more honest.

Randy, well put but Jason's posts are very different than CC's. She typically provides a rational basis for her arguments backed up with facts. Mul posts anything ad nauseum to get a rise, he really is a troll. How many times have we all had to see or read, out of context:
1. The elephant donkey pic
2. Sandy Berger's socks
3. All democrats are nazis and/or fascists and so on.

The internet is a scary place -- I for one, try to disclose as little personal information about myself as possible. Why? I hate spam emails, don't like stalkers, and value my privacy. (Yet, I bet most of you can find out who I am, where I live...etc. quite easily. No, that's not a challenge. )

If one wishes to disclose their personal information here, that's fine. But to require everyone to 'tell all,' that's not possible.

And to all: I think all of you should take a deep breath, go for a walk, and read your favorite liberal/conservative newspaper. Relax and don't take all this posting here so seriously.

Suppose someone else started interjecting the following into almost every thread:
- "REPUBLICANS ARE PILES OF STEAMING DOG *****"
- "MARINES ARE KILLERS AND FASCISTS"
- "CHRISTIANS ARE SCUM, GOD-LOVERS GO TO HELL"

That would disgust you, wouldn't it? Would anyone consider that a positive thing? Well, Mul is posting very similar things, just from a different angle.

As for personal information, I think it is wrong to ferret out and then post another OT member's full name, image, address, etc on this public board. I didn't see the previous exchanges involving mikez and Mul, but I did see Mul gleefully disclosing mikez's last name earlier in this thread - for no apparent reason than to taunt him. That's childish and should, IMO, be prohibited.
