Yea, tabs keeps posting basically the same thought, but upping the ante. Now he wants to suspend the Constitution (or wants us to believe he wants to suspend the Constitution).

Its a slippery slope folks, and tabs is showing us just how easy it is to start sliding.

Americans don't torture
Americans don't spy on Americans without probable cause
Americans don't equate free speech with treason

Start making exceptions to these fundamental principles (and the Bush administration has, on all three counts), and you are sliding.

The ditch is littered with folks who conclude the ends justify the means.

If we set aside our values, the bastards have already won.

The incredible irony of this statement rests in bush's past and recent speeches:

"The terrorists want to destroy our way of life."

Too bad bush is doing a better job than terrorists ever could.

To maintain public order, and the smooth flow of Goods and Services to sustain life in America in times of deperate peril Constitiutional Rights might have to be suspended on a temporary basis. There is precedent in American History of such extraordinary action taking place in times of Great Peril to America. Abraham Lincoln suspended the right of Habeus Corpus during the Civil War.

And you go to a WWII vet who was at Peal Harbor or served in the Pacific and ask them how they feel, then go to the Philippines & China and ask someone over 60 about Japan's basic decency.

"Japan's basic decency?"

You need to either read a little slower, or stop reading altogether and just drink.

What can I get ya?

you guys totally missed Tabs' point (rare that he has one ):

The problem is the "American Way of Life" tm

We as a nation have devolved into slovenly, brain-dead minions, sucking at the teat of short-term happiness. For us (and US), currently construed, we are taking precisely the correct course.

I'll offer that what he is actually arguing is that we as a society are fundamentally flawed, and his "To Save America" is in fact a call to arms to put an end to our *desires* for cheap goods and any price, and instead roll up our sleves and try and turn this bus around. Not so much the policy, but the underlying social fabric.

Well your right Nostatus ...the BOyz have missed the point of this little excercise....and so have you unfortunately...good try though it's my normal rant..

Americans being slothfull, lazy and expecting successs with no price to be paid is one thing....it is quiet another having a Government that is fast becoming dysfunctional....

R - the point trying to be made is that war is in fact hell. And we have been pretty brutal in waging it.

Well I'm going to finish this Thread..Mother says, "Ohhh boy what a surprise that is."

Very simply I was watching the HBO Series ROME....When I noticed that the characters were doing dispicable things and were justifing their actions by saying it's for "the GOOD of the Repblic..."

The Roman Repblic didn't die easy...it took about 100 years for the flame to be extinguished (Sulla to Tiberius)...you don't go from one day having a Repblic to the next have a Dictator....it's a gradual errosion of the freedomm/rights that takes place. You might say traditions die hard...

The parallel between Rome and the US can clearly be drawn...The US since 1948, according to Gore Vidal has been a "National Security State." This is where the errosion of Democratic institiutions and ideals began. Follow that through JFKs assination,Gulf of Tonkin fabrication in 1964, Nixons resignation, Iran Contra, Clintons various imbrigalios, The 2000 Election Fiasco, The Patriot Act etall, the 50/50 split in Electorate and viciousness of the 2 Parties towards each otherand you see a pattern of a slow grinding down of Democratic ideals and morays... you might say a cynicism has set in with regards to American Politics....and that according to the Sooth Sayer..."Don't bode well for America"

So what I brought you was a vison of the future in American Political Rhetoric...and according to some of you, it doesn't sound too far off from what you hear today....after all U boyz took me seriousily for quiet awhile...

Sure we took you seriously, you were saying the same thing as our president and vp!

You started a good discussion tabs, it opened my eyes to how much some will shed their values to "win." But that means losing, doesn't it?

And ROME is the best! Last episode Sunday
