It just so happens that I have one for sale. It's a Mars red/ tan leather car with 57k miles. It's mostly stock, apart from European bumpers and lights, a K24 turbo and a mild cam. It is in exceptional condition and looks like a new car.

The only downside is the price. It's not a typical example of the car and is priced accordingly. I don't have any pictures taken yet but I will in the next week or two.

My advice to anyone thinking of buying one of these is to buy the nicest one you can find. Most of these cars are well used, spares can be hard to find and cars with problems will eat you out of house and home.

Cheers,
JR

Edit... I just noticed that the original post was THREE AND A HALF YEARS AGO... I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the original poster has found his car by now, or decided not to buy one at all. How is it that these old threads can pop up out of nowhere?

I didn't notice either. What kind of money for the urq? I'm thinking of selling my 85 and it will also be 'expensive'. The problem with these cars is you can find decent drivers all day long for $10-$15K. But the exceptional cars are double that - unfortunately, few seem to be able to differentiate between the two.

Oops, old thread...

Mine was a rare '84, Tornado Red, it's still here in Denver in good hands (has a 20V).

Just to amuse us, wanna post some pictures?

I've always been a sucker for the UrQuattro, as well as the UrS4. Over the years I've come very close to buying several UrS4s but it's never worked out.

I would, if I had any pictures of the car. I will be taking some soon, as I do intend to sell it, so ping me in a couple weeks and we'll see what I have.

unfreakin believable! A blow off valve never sounded so good....
I don't know, but those spectators always make me nervous watching them sit there so close.

This is some VHS footage shot at the 1985 POR rally in Michigan. John Buffum in the 500HP Sport quattro. You could hear these things coming from a mile away out in the woods. The sound was unmistakable. You could pretty much stand anywhere you wanted and watch back then

These discussions never fail to give me notty thoughts. If I had spare money I'd probably be on my way to Dallas, there's a UrQuattro project down there for $3k.

is there a difference between the Coupe GT and the Quattro, other than 4WD of course? I had an 87 GT, it was an OK car, IIRC had had a pretty hard life before me...lots of lifter noise.

The last thing you ever want to buy is a project ur quattro. It's more expensive than a crack addiction, and just as fruitless.

Yeah, Lots of differences, starting with the engine, the suspension, the body, etc. The quattro was the top of the line Audi in those days and the coupe was about half as much money. The quattro was much better trimmed.

The Coupe GT was a standard assembly-line built car. All quattros were handbuilt in a separate facility (Hall N2) at a rate of 3 per day by this crew of 22 craftsman. They were priced slightly less than a Ferrari 308 of the day.

Top Gear called it "definitely the greatest car of all time".

Hey, just a three hour drive south and east and you can come buy what may be the best of these cars left in the country. You'll need a large grocery sack of cash, large bills only, and I'm available 7 days a week. The car is stored here at my house.

If you throw in a couple grand extra, I'll see if I can get a buddy of mine to come pick you up in his Beech Starship. It'll save you a couple hours, which you might need this weekend.

But yours is done. What fun is that?

Your friend is a Starship owner? Is he the guy who also has a number of extra airframes for spare parts? I believe there's only one or two that are actually still being operated, as we bought nearly all of them all back from their owners. I work at HBC, for nearly a year we had several Starships sitting on the ramp waiting to be scrapped. It always made me sad to see such a technical achievement waste away.
