I think I have a 911?

So I'm at my son's cub scout pack meeting tonight and they had a pre-weigh in for the upcoming pinewood derby races. My son wanted his car to be a replica of my '70. We're weighing the car, and a woman says:

"That looks like an old English cab. Is that what it is?"

"No, it's a Porsche 911."

"Wait! I think I have one of those, but it doesn't look like that." At this point she pulls out her keys, attached to a Porsche keyring, to show me.

"I have a 1970 911, and that's what this is supposed to be."

She smiles and walked away.

I think I have one of those??? In the parking lot as we left my son and I saw a 997...hers, I assume. I asked him what was wrong with that 911.

"It's not air cooled", he says. Oh yeah.

The derby is in three weeks. I'll let you know how the English cab does.

Anyone that says "I think I have one of those" should not be allowed to have one.

I ran into a guy in San Diego at one of the parks, climbing out of a well-kept 964. I commented, "Nice 964," and he replied, somewhat snootily, as if educating the huddled masses, "It's a 911." (sigh) You meet these people everywhere, people who don't have any idea what they're driving.

Haha well, if it was me, I would have given him a long lecture about Porsche internal model designations, just to make him feel like an a$$

I think that the lady was being cute, my guess is that she knew she owned a Porsche. How about a picture of the derby car? An English cab? Not a very similar profile to a 911. We'll see who needs glasses.

I used--I mean my son--used a profile from my original manual--unfortunately the wood is too narrow to get the proper width...with wheels axles, and a dime, it came in at 4.95 oz--can't be over 5. A little paint from my son, get the wheels and meatballs on, and she'll be done!

Sweet, looks like a 911 to me.

Women can be funny w/ cars sometimes, my mom was riding in a new MB s-class, (with me and a friend), she remarked, "this is a nice car, what is it? A Chrysler"?

no mistaking that sweet profile. brings back memories for me. back in around '73 i think it was my dad 'built' my pinewood derby car. i remember he spent a lot of time on it and was too much of a numbskull kid to not look really sad and gloomy when it didn't win. of course, maybe if i'd had the 911 profile..

I remember my pinewood from '76--don't recall how it did, but I do remember working on it with my dad...straws for tailpipes, #34, a .22 bullet for weight. Still have it. He had me sand the hell out of that thing.
