My solution to all the cheating is that the winner must sell the car to GRM for the price of the challenge. The the next years winner gets the previous years car as a prize but must surrender their car to GRM for the following years prize.

That would make the cars actually be worth the $2000.

Excellent solution Jim! I've thought of entering my E30 in the GRM Challenge, but there is no way in hell, I can compete with some of those cars after having already spent close to 2K.

Terry! YOU are a bastard! That is going to be the sheet of a little car.

Insanely overpriced. I got the engine and trans for a quater of that. Completely rebuilt head. Just need to be honed and reringed. Tranny also needs a bellhousing.

I picked up the M30 on sunday on the other coast of FL. Hand lifted that ***** into the bed of my truck with the help of a friend, not a easy feat. As part of the package I got a 265 getrag without a bellhousing/flywheel/ or linkage and a 3.73 rearend.

The motor is in excellent condition! I pulled it apart last night. He had complete redone the head using metric mechanic valves, schrick 282 cam, and ARP bolts. This is the crazy part....

the PO decided to install new rings because the motor was smoking a little, so instead of pulling the motor and having it honed he just left it in the car and popped each piston out, lol. So basically the new ring never seated properly due to the smooth cylinder walls.

He said it wasn't worth rebuilding again? and just bought another m30 to put in his 5 series.

There is absolutely no scoring or marking on the cylinder walls and the only evidence of oil buring is on the top of the pistions. Perfect freaking condition!!!

So I am pulling the piston and rods tonight and will have her at the machine shop by Friday.

It amazes me that someone would not spend $50 to rent a lift and $100 to take the block to get honed and cleaned. He had to replace the rod bearings when he swapped out the rings so no loss there.
