My GF had an 88 Celica All-Trac turbo 5-spd, which was a fantastic sleeper
Interesting. Just so happens that I bought the 88 Alltrac that we built into my ProRally car, from a girl from western PA whose boyfriend was a car guy and had encouraged her to buy it.

Was it black with a maroon interior?

Oh well. I still love those cars--it surprised the heck out of many Camaro/Mustang owners who didn't know what "All-Trac" meant and were left wondering how this Celica could take off like a shot from a stoplight while they were spinning their wheels...and when they finally did hook-up and get going, they would start gaining just as the boost would get going in third. (dislcaimer--street racing is dumb and only practiced by immature high schoolers who did not know any better after being exposed to countless Beach Boys songs glorifying this illegal activity).

But man was that car fun......

Ahhhhh, the good ol days. I really wish I still had my 67 Chevy II Nova. Total surf (snd chick) mobile. It was totally clean. Buddy had a 66 Chevelle with a built 400 in it. Oh yeah, good times. I think it's cool that kids still appreciate these cars.

Not a single muscle car at my HS ( I graduated in 97'). My buddy bought a 87' Grand National his senior year, then dropped out, lol. Another kid had a 96' Impala. Both decent grunt but not "muscle cars".

The rice revolution didn't start down here until after I was gone. But I can imagine what the parking lot looks like now.

For the life of me, I cannot understand the attraction to large, cheap designed, ill built, poor efficiency, poor handling, ugly shaped "muscle cars". I always thought "street drag racing" (not pro drag racing) was just too one demensioned and for those who could not understand vehicle dynamics.

Go for a ride in an 11 second car that was built by it's owner from junkyard parts and a Jegs or Summit catalog on a beer budget.

Grab a copy of "Hot Rod" magazine and see what I mean...

There's nothing like it.

I feel lucky I can afford to build both, but if it came down to it, it'll be a Chevy in the garage.

There was also a 996 cab, a Viper an NSX-T, CLK55 and a whole slew of WRXs. Not many american cars besides your run of the mill Mustang or Camaro.
Wow, I thought I went to a rich HS.

Actually, my humble little 944 turned more than a few heads at my 5-year reunion... sounds like it wouldn't even be noticed at yours...

I graduated in '98, between the American trucks and muscle cars, probably half our lot had a V8 and dual exhaust. Of course, it is KS, so it's to be expected. I had a 240SX, bone stock so zero rice. Luckily I had enough taste at the time to avoid that. Nothing too fancy in our lot, one guy had an early 944. Some of the muscle cars were nice, one guy had a pretty decent '70s Corvette. Nothing like Zamirz's school, I've been to car shows that don't have that nice of a selection.

kids do not deserve cars like some of the ones mentioned here. I grew up in a fairly financially secure household and bought my own first car - an 86 Saab 900 8v valve non turbo 4 dr - with my own money and learned to work on it. I graduated in 96, for some perspective.

I don't care what anyone says, the maturity level is just not there to justify an M3, 911, turbo anything.

Hell, at *21* I was getting in trouble with a Corrado VR6.

However - props to any kid who drove an AMX!!! Javelins rule!

I bought my 911 from a high school kid, he drove it to school for a few months before he sold it to me. His dad sells commercial trucks & was teaching him the trade with sports cars. He also had owned & driven a couple of M3s, nice family.

Damn, a new 911 Turbo? In High School!? To me that's just ****** scary, I totaled 4 cars in High School, and they weren't even fast. Thankfully all kids that age don't drive like I did, but those are some pretty damn nice cars to be sitting in a school lot. I know that most people didn't treat cars in the lot with much respect, and minor fender benders were a daily occurrence. More power to you guys I guess, if my parents would have offered me any of those cars I would have jumped at it. Of course, then I'd probably be dead.

Amen to what deathpunk states above. M3? 911? Turbo? Man, how are these kids still alive yet? My high school ride back in the mid '80's was a 80 hp 1977 Plymouth Arrow. With anything more powerful, I surely would have killed myself because I was an idiot when driving. Just too young to have any brains...

These kids must be very tame drivers if they haven't totalled these cars within a week of getting them from their parents. You can get an '02 M3 sideways in a blink of an eye without trying too hard. Put a 17 yr old in a 911 Turbo and you may as well order the matching coffin to go along with it... Man...

What are these parents thinking by letting their kids drive 300+ hp cars?

In my little mid-western high school, we had mostly junk '70's vehicles to bomb around in. There were maybe 1 or 2 really nice '70's muscle cars (if you call a '76 Ventura a muscle car) around. All the rest were clapped out '74 Buick Regals and rusty '77 Ford LTD's. The '60's cars were all rusted out by the time I was in high school and the muscle car phase was no where near in full tilt. We all drove junk and no-one cared as long as it ran and you could fit at least one girl in it.

I graduated in '96 as well...and was in the same situation. I bought my first car (and all subsequent cars). It was an '85 Plymouth Turismo. It was a piece of junk. It lasted just over a year.

There were no Porsches at my high school. There were plenty of BMWs, SUVs. One kid had a 3000GT VR6 with a Knight Rider light in front. The whole football team had Jeeps with their numbers on the spare tire covers. One kid, who's parents one the lottery, bought himself a Mustang GT. He got bored with it after 6 months and crashed it into a brick wall, walked to a dealership, and bought himself a Blazer.

BTDT, I applaud the mechanical effort, it's the intellectual componet that's missing. Allright for 16 yr. olds, but not stimulating and engaging for an adult. IMHO

Early 80's, my high school parking lot was filled with Monza's, Vega's, Junkstangs, Nova's, Crapmero's, American pickup trucks,TransAm's and a VW beetle (yours truly owned the Beetle). I went to a small town semi rural highschool.

Now my 2 daughters go to a rural highschool and it is filled with Neons, Focus's, Camaro's, Trans am's, Firebird's, Mustangs and pickup trucks. There are only a handful of foreign cars, 2 of which are my daughter's matching 924's. I am definitely a fish out of water with my german fleet in this rural area!
