It was in my backpack. This hotel doesn't have in-room safes like some. The front desk has a lock box but who is really going to fill out paperwork, sign in and out their iPod, car keys, or computer mouse, and carry it downstairs and back up again everytime they leave the room?

That's just silly.

We are, at present, fully engaged into this and although we may be teetering on the vigilante rope, we will find where this person lives and most likely conduct some surveillance.
More to come,

Stealing merchandise from hotel rooms: $1,500

Pawning the stolen goods because your a piece of **** crook: $200

Finding out the stuff you stole belonged to half a dozen really pissed off Federal Agents: PRICELESS

They'll get a lot more money for that stuff on eBay with less risk then a pawn shop.

ditto on the call to the hotel chain if the local manager doesn't provide satisfaction. the fact that a whole group of you were robbed adds a buttload to your case. book 'em, dano..

Good point. The Portland Paper ran a story on ebay being a huge fencing operation. One of the stories was a Boxster owner who had a set of street wheels/tires stolen while autocrossing at PIR. The thief put 'em on ebay, didn't bother to remove the distinctive valve caps. The Boxter owner "won" the bidding, luckily knew an area cop willing to come along when he went to "buy" his wheels back.

The police are already off the hook for preventing crime, thats not their job, but their job is certainly to track down the people who have committed a crime. Otherwise what the heck are we paying them for? Yeh , I know, collecting traffic revenue.

Oh wait, your in Georgia, never mind. All the police there are on the interstate protecting the country from speeders. No wonder nothing will come of your theft. All the manpower is on the Interstate writing speeding tickets.

Most likely the maids aren't the Ebay type, i.e. they don't own computers/can't speak english. At least you guys have the ability to do something about it, since nobody else seems to give a damn. My sister-in-law had a window busted out of her car a few months ago, local police wouldn't even send out an officer. Take 'em down!

That sux. Remind Marriot of the Dennys incident with the secret service agents and send an itemized bill. Let them know you'll consider putting a reward for the return ad in the local paper-mentioning their name. They have the door pass-key data. Were any of the items needed for conduct of Federal business?

Seems like the door-key data is the key issue here. Will the hotel cough it up? If so, what was the result?
