Monitoring, a few carryout owner's phone calls to their buddies in the ME does not put the US in a police state category.

Maybe I suffer from a form of old school patriotic pride, as I just cannot tolerate the idea of trivializing a few more attacks like 9/11.

Tim, I can't see that Thom's position is any less old school patriotic pride than yours. actually, he's sticking up for our Constitution. I think we all should.

The Democrats totally miss, or ignore, the one offense that comes close to justifying impeachment of Bush. Bush swore on two occasions to "faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States". Article IV of the Constitution clearly requires "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion".

Therefore the President has not upheld the Constitution to protect the States from invasion from other countries - illegal immigration. Get one of your liberal Democrats to propose legislation for impeachment on this and it might have a chance of getting somewhere.

Well Jim, the constitutionality of listening to an overseas phone call may warrant debate (I am not convinced it is unconstitutional), but the fact remains that these b@stards are plotting to hit us again and I for one think we need to continue our efforts to minimize the risk.

I think many who abhor Bush, try to paint this as a domestic spying issue rather than terrorist surveillance. This just smacks of political doo doo.

Don't trivialize your opposition, or their motives. Some of us see this as an issue of civil liberties, of preserving the Constitution and rule of law. Some of us see this as fundamental to our system of checks and balances and hence our liberty.

Not everything is politics.

Concur. But Bush has a lot of support (or accomplices) in this. This could be such a huge issue for Dems to steal irate Republican voters too. Plenty of die-hard Republicans would vote Dem in a second if they were really serious about fixing our border and immigration enforcement. I might even....

Richards was not foaming at the mouth while he stated his opinion.

No one ever seems to question the constitutionality of monitoring gun owners...but God forbid we watch over the people who have sworn to destroy us.
