The Illinois General Assembly is about to rock the nation. Members of state legislatures are normally not considered as having the ability to decide issues with a massive impact to the nation as a whole. Representative Karen A. Yarbrough of Illinois' 7th District is about to shatter that perception forever. Representative Yarbrough stumbled on a little known and never utlitized rule of the US House of Representatives, Section 603 of Jefferson's Manual of the Rules of the United States House of Representatives, which allows federal impeachment proceedings to be initiated by joint resolution of a state legislature. From there, Illinois House Joint Resolution 125 (hereafter to be referred to as HJR0125) was born.

It's impressive that Jefferson foresaw a situation where one party controlled all three branches, and created the ability for a state to initiate impeachment.

As long as Bush continues to provide the effective leadership he's shown to this point we may well have a Democtratic Congress after the fall elections that could perform this service to the country via the front door rather than the back.

Yea, we all know it's a "hard left" position to not want to be spied on by your own government in violation of the Constitution.

One of the interesting points is that one of the items, the one specified as a felony, that the NSA was directed by the President to spy on American citizens without warrant, is not in dispute.

What is wrong with people? Wasn't the Clinton spectacle enough for one generation? When are the calmer Gen X or Y people going to be able to get into the ranks? Do we really want to live life like on a tiny, Caribbean island with a junta every year? Is that really in our best interest? I think it is clear that Bush is in way over his head - that, in Mark Twain's words "we could throw a rock in any direction and hit someone more able" - but, come on folks, his presidency isn't the end of the world - and it's almost over.

Ok, WITHOUT A WARRANT. Happy now? The President has every legal right to do what's necessary to protect the United States, and warrantless eavesdropping of communications into and outside of the country are completely legal and legitimate.

By the way, the Illinois General Assembly is not about to 'rock the nation'. This is all a stunt made by a Cook County democrat who's been suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome for years. Time for Illinois downstaters to propose legislation to kick Cook County out of the state.
