But then certain games - IMHO, many of the ones worth playing - are crap. You need a keyboard and a mouse for a decent experience in Battlefield and most first person shooters (which is what I play). I just played Call of Duty 2 last night for a bit on PC, and I've seen it on XBox360. Using a control pad in those games sucks.

Then there are strategy games, which I admit many work on a Mac, but are constrained by overpriced hardware...

Lets just go back to DOS machines. Back before icons were the vogue. I guess I prefer the 26 letters of the alpahabet to hieroglphics. My cell phone has little picture icons that I'm not sure what they all mean. Cars used to say "lights" under the light switch. Now there are little pictures of things that don't mean much to me. I preferred it when boom boxes had the words "fast forward" on the buttons. Are we developing an icon based universal communications tool that is supposed to work for people of all languages? How many nonalphabet characters are on your keyboard? What will people of 500 years from now say when they read about us in history books? Will they wonder what smilies are for?

I received my Macbook (white) last week and I love it! Couldn't figure out why the black was more expensive though.

Just saw this. Jobs did not 'pirate' the GUI from PARC. He asked them if they intended to market it and they (PARC) told him that Headquarters had no interest in it. jobs gave Xerox a block of Apple stock to pay for the GUI idea and developed it.

In '83, when Microsoft was my client, they claimed to me that they 'helped' in finalizing the Macintosh GUI, but of course, by then, the Lisa had been out for a while, so I doubt the Boys from Redmond made any significant contribution.

The story is well-told in a book called Apple Confidential 2.0. (you'll find a reference to me on page 12.)
