Yeah, but since we're talking about Somalia, not Sudan, I believe Somalia is the only instance of the US being even more useless than the UN (yes, I know it was Clinton's fault).

I just would have thought that it is best not to back warlords - its a bad look. The UN seeks peace and protection (even if they do a bad job). According to the article, the US has a totally different (and really quite dubious) goal in Somalia.

And more to the point, dozens of times in the last 6 decades the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" has bitten the US govt in the ass, including Saddam.

I am not up to date with the details of of a hypothetical move against Somalia. But - what US does not need is a duplication of "Black Hawk Down". That would be detrimental, to say the least.

On the other hand, anything to block out / eradicate Muslim fundamentalism is worth a medal in my book.

On a side note, I read a report on 'Acid crime' in Bangladesh. Apparently throwing acid in the face of women that do not accept to marry the man appointed to them, has become a popular remedy. The pics of 10 - 15 year old girls with their face and upper abdomen 'melted away' are totally horrendous.

And, what do you know, 90% of the population are Muslims. :mad:
