Osmosis.....

Main Entry: os·mo·sis
Pronunciation: äz-'mO-s&s, äs-
Function: noun
Etymology: New Latin, short for endosmosis
1 : movement of a solvent through a semipermeable membrane (as of a living cell) into a solution of higher solute concentration that tends to equalize the concentrations of solute on the two sides of the membrane

This Biology 1 lesson speaks volumes for the American lifestyle.....as we unnaturally 'compress' ourselves into urban and suburban settings the resulting 'friction' is inevitable. Friction of course creates energy as heat....a heat which in our case results in frustration, road rage, murder, insulationary lifestyles and on and on ad nausea......

If for one intend to diffuse 'osmotically' ASAP......just a thought.......

The best thing I ever did was to get the hell out of the Chicago area.

Let's see...

Too many people.
Too many people that are selfish.
Too many people that never think about how their actions affect other people.
Too many politicians.
Too many politicians that want to legislate every aspect of life.
Smoking bans.
Handgun bans.
Taxes on everything.
Taxes on taxes.
Taxes on taxes on taxes.
Daley.
Tollways.
The Hillside Strangler.
The overzealous enforcement of the speeding tax.
Blagoyevich.
The fact that one interstate can have four names.
Naperville.
Too many people who live in Naperville going into steep debt to keep up a lifestyle they can't afford.

So far, I think the best thing I did was to get out of the burbs and move into the city. Being a pedestrian commuter is a lot less stressful.

What should we do then? Form ourselves back into bands of hunter-gatherers? I prefer walking to get a slice of pizza or go for a beer..

Where the heck you think the ingredients for said pizza and beer come from? Got to have someone working the open land to "enable" your city lifestyle.

I am with legion. Move out as soon as possible. Only came to the city for college.

Many lids for many pots. They moved me out - and I spent too much time in I-25 traffic, thank you very much. Someone needs to live large off the honest labors of Middle America. And that would be me.

You should be glad you are not here for the I-25 widening project. Government (and contractors) at its best. They spent $25k on a research group to come up with a name for the construction. And the result of this funding is .........

COSMIX - Colorado Springs Metro Interstate Expansion

Man I went into to wrong industry.

Best thing I ever did was get out of the D. C. Area.

Way to crowded
Expensive as California but without the weather

15 years on I-25 (Uintah and Nevada exits always under constructin.....now 16 years on I-95 in South Florida, recently given the dubious distinction of 'Road Rage Capital' of the U.S.....

I'm thinking of heading out for somewhere like Hasty, CO and the Busy Bee Cafe...which is the definitive oxymoron...

DC or the burbs? The burbs here are brutal. I especially hate Fairfax County. Traffic always sucks, cops are out to generate revenue, housing is through the roof, and there's nothing to do but go into the city or get way the hell out of town.

Now that I'm in DC, I get to:
Walk to work (15 minute commute, part of which I walk with my wife )
Walk to the grocery
Walk to the deli
Walk to Chinatown
Walk to the museums
Walk to restaurants, clubs
Walk to the bus stop to catch the Connector to Georgetown
Walk to the theatre
Walk to the barber, bank, post office, dry cleaner
Walk to the park
Walk to the bus stop or metro station to ride to Union Station to travel up the East Coast
Sit on our rooftop terrace and look at the concete jungle
Drive my 911 to the track and flog it

I-25 stunk when the front range had half the population of today.. Once went north out of town on 83 - it was a weekend morning and I could smell a rat - took it easy and all the yahoos in pickups were passing me going up a hill. On the other side was the county cops having a turkey shoot. I waved as I went by 3 MPH over....

HEY NOW!

Though that second one is absolutely true... We are one of the 5 families here that live well within our means. (and only because we were able to dodge the Escalade/Navigator clause in the move-in convenant.

You're one of the very few. My parents spent their entire 401ks trying to keep up there for 10 years.

I had friends there whose parents couldn't afford food or furniture, yet they had their BMW and MB in the garage, and a 5,000 sq. ft. house (in White Eagle)...

( I lived walking distance from where you now live, proud graduate of Gregory Middle School and Waubonsie Valley High School here.)
