B-17
B-17 just flew over Denver, very low and slow (always slow, I know). Anyone know anything.
Sorry, no pic, only saw underside very briefly. |
Uh-oh...warplanes, colorado. Your HS mascot isn't a wolverine is it?
|
It is probably the EAA's (Experimental Aircraft Association).

Thanks Tim. It was headed SE, toward Centennial.
I'll have to head down there this weekend. |

Yep, but sans P-51.
Heard it, thought it was the C-47/DC-3 that used to fly over from time to time. Looked out the window: 4 engines, B-17. |
love the b-17.
Last evening over santa Rosa, CA a B-24 and two p-51's flew over going south east. maybe heading for the same show. |

B-17, one of the Greatest Airplanes ever built.
The scenery in the movie Dr Strangelove was all shot using a B-17 over Alaska. if one looks closely you can see the shadow fo the plane in the movie, and it doesn't look like a 52. |
they were giving rides around the bay area last weekend. they were coming and going from moffett field in mt. view about every hour or so. dont know if it was the two exact, but a couple of my plane geek buddies knew what they were right away. they flew in friday night and were giving rides all weekend. i am right in the landing flight path of moffet.

I was lucky while driving to the Parts Heaven swapmeet, the B17 went straight overhead landing at Moffet while I drove by. I had my camera on the passenger seat and would have taken a photo if I had seen the plane 20secs before. What a view could only have been 100 feet off the ground.

wow seeing the evergreen bird in that condition blew me away! its been awhile and it wasnt in a showroom setting, just sitting there. we sold some tooling to them and one day purchasing agent asked me if i wanted a looky see. jumped at the chance! stuck myself in ball turret and bomb bay walked and crawled thru the entire plane. thought i was yossarian(we've been diving @catch-22 beach where it was filmed when we were in our early 20's and the set was still intact). man that was one hell of a day at work for me! TOO COOL! didnt know CAF bird was old slurry bomber. they did a great restoration on that one. was at our air show, ran out of digital batteries and was headed to get some more when B-17 did its pass, so was pissed i didnt get any pics. since there are a lot of anti-aeroplane people surrounding where i work, it may be awhile until another show w/a B-17 fly-by! great pics. with only 10 still flying you better jump at any chance to see them.
