I left that out there, just, because, I knew that someone would bite. Unable to respond with anything meaningful, go for the spelleng.

Seriously..they are too close to use most systems...not enough air time to react and target You need a system something like the Navy uses on ships for that...and that would be too dangerous in populated areas.

Also...the current PATRIOT pretty darned good...for anti-missile and anti-aircraft use. We recently did some testing and it is a pretty impressive system...and the operators are pretty darned good too.

Are you kidding?? They have almost a full minute to react, track, and destroy the target. Considering the tracking system would require millisecond response rates, this is an eternity. What’s the real reason?

You have to identify it before you can shoot at it. That is where time is lost.

Patriot is a very good system to shoot down slow moving, large targets, like airplanes. Thats what they were designed to do, nothing more. Shooting at missiles was just plain wishful thinking. Extensive mods made these so that they are just plain excellent at shooting down an aircraft, but I suspect that the missiles are still just wishful thinking.

Any system like this has the problem of identifing targets. Its really bad when you end up shooting down your own airplanes, as we have already done. Thats why I like beam weapons. No time lost getting to the target. Unfortunately when you send out a beam with the equivalent power of the output of the hoover dam, even for a very short time, you have to have a very large battery, so to speak. Very noisy and makes a good, very expensive, target to boot.
