Tell Jim that last blotter wasn't very good.

sammyg2 07-31-2006 04:02 PM

The correct reply (for those who do not want to take him up on his offer) would be:
Thank for for your concern, but I am not interested at this time.

Would that hurt? nope, not at all.

He offered something to you that he feels is very valuable. No one here said thank you, even if you don't see any value in the offered gift.
Obviously you don't agree with him or his beliefs, obviously you think he is dilusional. The problem is, most of you failed to realize exactly what he was trying to do. He offered you what he thinks is the greatest gift that can be granted. it meant a great deal to him. He did it because he wants to share something special to him.
Most of you failed to see the intention or the thought behind the gift, you just looked at the percieved value of the offering. Remember that saying, it isn't the gift, but the thought that counts?

So you decided to ridicule him and his belief just like a spoiled brat at christmas would do if he didn't get what he wanted.
Did that make you feel good? Was it the right thing to do? Those are retorical questions, no need to answer. just think about it and see if you can come to an honest conclusion.

Utter bollocks. Like all Extreme Godbothers, Ron thinks tripe like this assures his own place in heaven. It is entirely self serving.

Makes Amway look good.

Ron, the only thing that awaits us when we die is a hole in the ground. Embrace this, my son. Give up these silly ideas of eternal life after death. Only then shall ye be truly free.

Would that be the correct reply for someone hawking six flags theme park tickets for 50 bucks or free power via gererators?

The original poster is a troll regardless of the message or product he is pushing(salvation in this case). He is open to the same scrutiny as any other.

and isn't it a violation of the boards rules to come sell stuff here ?? other then second hand parts , in the WTD section that is...

sammyg2 08-01-2006 07:25 AM

If he was trying to sell something that would result in profit, then you would be right. That wasn't the case.
He offered only a mesaage, a thought, an idea.
Isn't that what OT is all about? Sharing different opinions?

well, my opinion is that this guy is a religious troll whose primary goal is to sucker other folks into his way of believing just so feel good about himself, and he does it by trying to attack other folks insecurity through hell and damnation speeches...
and he's not even devoted enough to get his own lazy ass out of his chair and do the door to door thing

a wanna be Swagart if you ask me

John70T, two different things gonig on there. Praying and hearing the message are not the same thing.
In the bible Jesus said:
And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say unto you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. - Matthew 6:5-6

Praying and spreading the word of salvation are two different things.
When Jesus prayed to God, he did so in private. But when spreading the word or preaching he did that in public, the sermon on the mount is a good example.

Did you ever wonder why people get so angry when someone brings up the Lord or talks about salvation?
There is a spiritual realm just like our physical one and the Devil's best defense is a good offense. Make a Christian feel guilty for trying to help someone. No one apologized for posting nudity and profanity but if I talk about Jesus or Heaven and Hell then I am so kind of insensitive wacko with a hidden agenda. Something is wrong with this picture. I don't gripe over all the cursing. Maybe people should be less sensitive if I say "Jesus Loves You" (He really does you know).
As mentioned before, why are you so upset. It was obvious from the title what the post was about. People opened it up anyway and then acted like a school-marm with unwanted porn mail. If there really is no God, why are you always cursing, damning, and denying Him?

craigster59 08-01-2006 07:35 PM

Jesus walks into an Inn and slaps some nails on the counter and says "Hey, Can you put me up for the night?".. Oh man,,, now I'm going to Hell for sure...

nostatic 08-01-2006 07:39 PM

why is it not ok to come here and "sell" cell phone, ipods, and gas cards? Most people view it as an intrusion on the forum.

For many, religion is a personal matter. And to some, having someone say "Jesus loves you" is an intrusion. Think of it as a violation of one's personal/spiritual space. What do you think would happen if someone came on here and said, "Allah loves you"?

Also, this person is not a member of this community. We generally put up with people who are a part of this community saying *almost* anything they want. But an outsider has a very short leash. Having a bot phish bbs sites spreading the gospel doesn't seem very Christian to me. Sometimes the methods taint the message...

john70t 08-01-2006 08:06 PM

On a side note, I was joking against the televangalists types(didn't Fawell and Baker both get caught) that defraud old ladies pensions, not people who use faith in their daily lives to be better persons. No offense intended sorry.

Agreed. Can't say that one knows who this is. But you have to admit Todd, that any time one brings up religion from the Christian standpoint, it is ridiculed. I can't remember anyone admitting that they are muslim. That would probably get a different response than the ridicule.

Plenty of people having their space violated in terms of political or professional posts here. Saying that you believe your God cares about someone else is an "intrusion"? I think the target of the statement may feel offended if they don't believe in the same God, and feel like they are being considered inferior or "bad", but come on. This isn't even as offensive as someone taking off their shoes on an airplane or cutting farts. (can I say that?)

notfarnow 08-01-2006 08:15 PM

Went on a spectacular bender a few months ago, and ended up seeing God. He said (I kid you not): "Your time is up." Then there was a countdown that only I could hear, and then I passed out, weeping like a child.

I will never, ever mix my wine, hard liquor, beer, dope and shrooms again.

nostatic 08-01-2006 08:27 PM

Peter, I'll grant you your points. I'm just trying to indicate why people might react they way they do. It might not be because they don't respect the religion, but they don't like the message being pushed on them. And a spam bot is exactly that.

I think you see a lot more civil dialogue in some of the other threads, such as the "is a god or not" thread. Yeah, the rhetoric gets heated, but from both sides. I will say that the Christians tend to take more than their fair share of hits, but that should not be totally unexpected. Religion and politics are guaranteed to get some slings and arrows. That doesn't excuse it, but again I'm just trying to frame the dynamic.

From the non-believer standpoint, there often is a condescending tone in the message. Telling someone they are going to hell if they don't believe...well, how would you expect someone to respond? That is a very provacative statement. If a Muslim came on here and said, "all you Christians will burn because you don't believe in Allah" what do you think the response would be?

And I'm actually a believer, but not in the traditional organized religion sense...so I kinda straddle this issue.
