Original Miles

So, what are "original miles" are other miles fake? how can they not be "original"?
This ranks right there with VIN number, of course it's a number, that is what it says,

Wow, it's pretty early to be thinking about way out stuff but you are right.

I think when speaking in terms of value or correctness of a vehicle, most would conclude that "original miles" would mean no major repair work on the vehicle.

As for the VIN "number", I have this argument each time I use it for a vehicle. The secretary of state's office person used that term last time I was in. She didn't think it was all too funny when I corrected her, though.

or maybe you was just jokin'?

I believe the "original" part refers to the car, not to the miles. How many miles was the car driven in its' original or factory condition? If you painted the car a different color when it had 60k, you'd be changing the original condition of the vehicle. I think alot of people make the same mistake in referring to the miles.

Just plain DIPPY thats all ....Orginal Miles refers to the fact that nobody screwed around with the Odometer...and the mileage reflected there is the acutal mileage on a car.

I have trouble when people proclaim low mileage on elderly cars..has the OD bin flipped over??? and is on the 2nd run through? For me to believe it one has to have Maintence receipts from day one to verify.

I see.

I wonder what it means then when people advertise a car as having "original factory miles"? I see that often.

Some examples of "original factory miles" in ads:

1957 Triumph - Brand new Triumph 21 with only 3 original factory miles from estate. The bike has been kept in the house in perfect original condition............

"This is a 2005 Yamaha Road Star XV1700. It is in excellent condition and has many things added for "creature Comforts". It has approximately 5300 original factory miles. and is still covered under factory extended warranty. "

"I still don't understand why someone would buy a car brand new when you can buy a year-old model for thousands less, many times with little more than the original factory miles still on it. And all these year-old's are usually still covered under the original warranty."

These all seem to refer to the condition of the car, not the condition of the odometer. Strange.
