Porsche sypder in Frank Miller's Sin City

Does anyone know the story of the spyder in Sin City? Kind of a 550 with 959 type headlights. Real pretty, possibly a kit?

on the dvd set, here is a snip quoted from somewhere else.

Quote:
A Hard Top with a Decent Engine: The Cars of Sin City is a seven-minute-and-a-half featurette which revealed the importance of cars in the movie. Cecil D. Evans who serves as the transportation coordinator reveals on finding the cars for the film which gives the movie a sense of style. The ones he found were in Austin like Wendy's '55 Porsche Spyder Convertible, Dwight's red '59 Cadillac Convertible, Hartigan's '55 Buick Convertible, '55 Chevy Police Car, Jackie Boy's '57 Chevy Imperial, Dallas' '41 Chevrolet, Roark Jr.'s '61 Jaguar XKE, the 57' Ford Thunderbird for the Body Transfer, the Priest's 1990 Mercedes 420 SEL, Marv's '68 Chevrolet Corvair, a '49 Chevrolet Taxi, and Mr. Shlubb's '89 Ferrari. Nancy's '57 Chevy Nomad was the only car found outside of Austin while the Yellow Bastard's 1937 Cadillac was the most expensive since it costs $100,000 to rent for a week. Many of the cars were chosen in ode to film noir and they were the kind of cars Frank Miller loved.

I met the previous owner at an Austin run about a year ago. I'm horrible with names, but remember he was a really nice guy. He rode with me for a bit around Hill Country, as the 356 he was building wasn't yet rode-ready.

I don't remember many specifics on the car. But, IIRC, it wasn't a Beck. But, definitely a kit.

I believe he's on Pelican, so maybe he'll see this thread.

"Jackie Boy's '57 Chevy Imperial,"

Man, that's so rare, I've never heard of it before...

Hey Guys,

They 550 replica in Sin City is my former car, which was a Vintage Spyder. I bought the car out of S. Florida in 2001 and completely rebuilt it, both cosmetically and mechanically. I ended up selling it to a young guy out of Austin, TX, a couple of years ago and he told me the movie guys spotted the vehicle at a car show out there. They persuaded him to let them use it in the movie and the rest is history, as they say.

That car had the best power-to-weight ratio of any vehicle I have owned. Of course the Jake Raby motor I put in helped!

Sorry for the not-so-great photos, but i didn't have a very good camera at the time. I had the car looking pretty much like an authentic 550, with the exception of the wheels. Next project was going to be the correct 5-lugs, but ended up selling the car to the fellow in Austin.

Type 550:

Not to hi-jack the thread - but I see from your signature that you have a Proteus C - Jag - a car I have lusted after for years! Do you have the glas or the alu version - and how do you like it and what do you do with it - racing or touring? Any chance for a picture???

Dottore,

It's alloy-bodied. Check your PMs for some details.
