I hear lots of whining in here. Too bad the whiners can't be here. Their life would be in danger.

Think about how mad you were that morning, and how sad you were later.

Those that cannot remember are doomed to repeat.

That's nice. I have a half dozen friends who live there. Like most who do, they do not feel safer, but more at risk. Like most who live there, they feel the government has let them down repeatedly -- including failing to close long-identified security loopholes.

I hope they, and all visitors to their city, remain safe on this sad anniversary.

This is certainly true, and applies well to the current situation, but IMO not necessarily in the way you are thinking about.

I'm thinking about those who cannot remember McCarthyism, Vietnam, and past asset bubbles..

I spent the afternoon w/ a young lady who was in NYC that day, she lost several close friends in the towers including one NYFD who was a "talk to every day" friend. She described the almost unbearable sadness that hung over the city for a long time, plus the jittery nerves. I know that we have a couple members here who were close to it in that way, and my heart goes out especially to them. I was deeply hurt by it, but 3000 miles away. I could not even go to NYC for 2-3 years after that.

The last time I was there was July 2001, I have family there as well and an Aunt who has worked for Morgan Stanley for over 20 years. She was supposed to transfer from her office in midtown to WTC in Oct. 2001. She lost a lot of friends in there.

I miss the city and want to go back next summer. I already warned my wife it will be very emotional for me.

I had promised my son in July 2001 that the next time we go back we would go up on the roof of the WTC, we were on the observation level in July and I never knew you could go up another floor to the roof.

I am listening to a replay of Howard Sterns 2001 broadcast this morning. Some of the comments he made along with callers are chilling.

Something they keep talking about:

How does a plane hit the Pentagon 48 minutes after the WTC was hit? They cannot understand how it made it to the Pentegon.

The towers have not fallen yet on the replay, to hear the distress in everyones voices, the frustration... something I forgot about.

My brother in law was working at the AOl building when it happened....He was there when they fell...I went and helped dig..I lost several friends. A sad day indeed, but in retrospect, we have had it easy compared to a lot of other countries..acts perpetrated against them with OUR support. We are complete hippocrits and we just label it as a "war on terror".....

With all the new laws and personal freedom infringements that this administration had levied against the american public...the terrorists have won already, most of us are too ignorant to the fact that we have a government out of control to realize this . It is sad that most people in the land of the free are less free than we were on sept 10, 2001

It took 3 and a half hours to read the 2,749 names of the dead.

The only consistant sound in the background was the sound of the giant flag flapping against it's mounts on the building to the north of the site.

Crystal clear, breezy day. Just like 5 years ago.

I'm glad I got to Windows on the World while it still existed.

CBS had a documentary last night that I hope they will repeat. There was a French film crew doing a story on probationary firemen. They are the ones who caught the image of the first plane going into the tower, and kept the camera rolling throughout the day as the ash and dust fell, and ultimately as each one of the firefighters came back to the station. The probationary fireman they were there to film was presumed lost. It's fantastic footage, and very emotional to see the sense of family that was forged in the fire station that day. I hope everyone gets to see it.
