I'm voting for change. I hope everyone else does also.

Not only that, I hope no one votes for a single Democrat OR Republican.

Imagine the change that would apply.

fastpat,
Do you like Obama at all? Seems like a good guy.

Yea, it would keep the current leadership in place. Cutting off your nose to spite your face is usually not good strategy.

Then you'll get the status quo. You're argument above is widely used by the two large parties to ensure one of them stays in power. I've heard it hundreds of times, "the lesser of two evils" theory.

VenezianBlau 87 10-05-2006 05:09 AM

Couldn't agree more, Bill.

Quoted you:
Isn't it becoming obvious to every one that this country is being run by a bunch of self serving bastards.
I see the bickering here between left and right suporters...

I cut off the last sentence since the first part is what gets me. The bickering is all about splitting hairs and playing gotcha politics. I support groups now rather than the broken system as a whole.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-05-2006 05:13 AM

Why fix it? There's too much money to be made in prolonging the problems.

We have gone from citizen politicians to career politicians and are transitioning to political dynasties

Our elected officials gerrymander, sell votes to special interest groups to raise money to get reelected in perpetuity

They buy votes from the gullible public by making promises paid for by our taxes(and even then don't account for spending under GAP) that can't even be kept and that will bankrupt the country,

Our elected leaders don't have to live w/ the same retirement or health care or accounting rules that everyone else has to deal w/ they have voted themselves special privligages because they believe themselves to be "special"

I am so disgusted

Jim Richards 10-05-2006 05:51 AM

I would love to see (short) term limits. Get the career out of politics.

It is certainly time for change; we agree on that. I think everyone does. I think we may dissagree on the nature of that change, however. I don't see it as a Democrat vs. Republican, a left vs. right kind of an issue. I see it as an incumbent vs. "new blood" opportunity. The old "vote the bastards out" cry has more merit than ever. Unfortunately, I think too many folks have been drawn into the two parties' rhetoric and are scared to death to vote for the "other guys" across party lines. Maybe it's time we start looking at, and treating, the two dominant parties as one and the same. Vote the incumbents out, even if I have to vote for a Democrat to replace a Republican and you have to vote for a Republican to replace a Democrat. Maybe if no one, at any level, got more than one term anymore, we could someday return to some semblance of our government the way it was meant to be.

Again, I agree. I was in high school when North Carolina was debating the going to a full time legislature. A huge mistake most states have made. The number of laws passed escalated when that happened, which to me begs the question; just what needs to be made against the law that wasn't already against the law in say 1900? Virtually nothing.

You might think about not voting for anyone who says:

*I'll fight for you.
*I'm going to not be a part of the good ole' boy network.
*I'll get this (insert city, county, state) it's share of tax money.
*I'll only serve one (or two, or three) terms and then resign.

I'm sure there are other reasons to choose from to NOT vote for a candidate.

I've known hundreds of politicans, and have worked for many. I just came from a breakfast where there must have been 15 pols, including the infamous Patrick Kennedy (man, he's really starting to look old for his age).

The problem is not that these are evil people. Most of them come to their jobs with idealism. BUT YOU CAN'T LEAVE THEM THERE FOR TOO LONG. The system gets to almost everone eventually.

Sweep the decks, and do it regularly.

I see the bickering here between left and right suporters but isn't it obvious that every single one of the current incumbants at the very least least should be removed from office, I would like to see a lot of them in jail as well.:(

Wow Bill!!!

You do know that the State of NH still allows the right of armed rebellion to it's citizans.

Anyone see the Bill Moyers' report last night on PBS (Moyers On America: Capitol Crimes)? It examined the Abramoff-DeLay-Reed scandal and discussed how out of hand the lobbying of Congress has gotten. The corruption and greed of ALL members of Congress, especially the House of Reps, is disgusting. Any legislation can be bought or stopped. If you aren't outraged enough already this report will surely put you in a homicidal rage!

Here's the PBS link:
