Hummm, Montana this, Montana that, what about Young? He had some serious wheels that gave the D fits. Probably was *smarter* than M too, well, b4 all the hits to the head

Gannon was the last decent thing to happen to the Raiders.

No mention about Terry Bradshaw, even though he has four rings? I'd say presently, Tom Brady.

Brady is overrated. I'd take Manning with a defense any day (plus some timely calls from the officials). Even Rich Gannon
Oh wow...spoken like a crack addict or a Raiders fan, or possibly both. just kidding...

I know how sensitive the Raiders fans are about the tuck-rule game.

Anyway, Manning has had PLENTY of chances in the playoffs and his team has had good defenses too...that and a plethora of weapons.... and he has lots of stats and has never even gone to the big game. (remember he was 0 - Florida in college too).

Now, I personally believe that Manning is great and will QB a SB team some day, ala-Elway, but thats still only a possibility.

Brady has done it 3 times, with cruddy receivers (the all suck when they go to other teams dont they?) and many guys you couldnt even name... Can you name the receivers on his 2001 team other than 5-8 inch Troy Brown?

And the Pats Defense has never been "Great", they are always very strong in one area, but weak in another...getting by with smart football, and often hanging by the seat of their pants.

Nope, Brady's the cog in that wheel...a far less talented wheel than the 80s 49ers (with Rice, Taylor, Craig, and a great O line) etc... but thats not taking anything away from Joe Montana...he is number 1 with Brady being 1a until he gets his 4th ring then they will be tied.

Its always easy to be skeptical about the current days QBs as the old guys always look better in memory...but compare the two QBs stats to this point in their careers, along with SB titles and MVPs and you will see some very definite similarities and Brady has done it with less around him.

Gannon had 1 great year (no title) and 2 good years. I give him credit for developing himself in to a good NFL QB, but he doesnt hold a candle to these guys in terms of statue among the greats.

Montana, Brady, Elway, Bradshaw, Elway, Marino, Peyton, Staubach, Aikman, Kelly, Sammy Baugh, Unitas, maybe Griese (he didnt throw many passes with that running game), Fouts, Namath, etc. in that order.

Yeah, he'd be on my "top 5 pro quarterbacks" list...

A Little bit of Western Pennsylvania Quarterback History. George Blanda, Len Dawson, Joe Namath, Johny Unitas, Joe Montana, Jim Kelly and Dan Marino all come from this area. Not a bad group.

Brady has 3 SB rings in 5 seasons as a starter ...kinda hard to argue with that.

He's the best in the game today and has a reasonable shot at best of all time.

As much as I have a healthy disliking for the Pat's, I still respect them, especially Brady. Seems he's always in the game, even when he doesn't have his best stuff. It's usally because he's trying to do too much. When the rest of his teams rolling, watch out.

I'm glad someone remembers Blanda and Unitas. I'd add Dan Pastorini! Great player on a less than horrible team. You think the current Houston front line is porous???

If he'd been able to play with a real team, you'd ALL know who he is!!

And he races Porsches!

Montana has always been "my man." Perfect illustration of the intangible. Get him in the big game and he knows, and his teammates know, and his coaches know, and his opponents know, and everyone knows.......he is going to win.

Toss up between Joe Montana and Dan Marino...
Wasn't much of a football fan before their era so can't comment on others.

What... no mention of...

Add to the Hall of Shame along with Ryan Leaf: (and we are not talking here of people that could not compete at the pro level (the Sean Salisbury's), we are talking about those that have imploded due to their own vices or their hype/ego could not come anywhere near their true abilities)

I find it hard to seperate "favorites" from the truly "great" ones. So here are my top 3 "greats:" Montana, Unitas and Bradshaw. They were all winners. Among my "favorites" would be Staubach, Brody and Namath. For me these guys were fun to watch and made me a NFL fan.
