AUDI,

We go to Rock Concerts (Stones, Who, Dylan) and wave our Titles in one hand and our lighters in the other...Remember we like to take risks!

His last post is an outstanding example of why we need to tighten up insurance policies. His home is no doubt being rebuilt "starting over from scratch" with other people's money -- you know, those less well-off people who live in boring, flat areas where it is safe to build. It's other people's scratch.

But the greatest mystery to me in this thread is - assuming arguendo - that he really is what he represents himself to be... why does he keep making posts that would embarrass most teenagers?

Can't some moderator lock his userid or block his IP to make him just go away............please................????

And move this thread to OT where it can slowly sink to the bottom of the cesspool where both he and it belong!

Muhahahahahaha!

RANDY WEBB... YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND!

Randy,

You are a moron for making a statement about insurance companies and must be around 15 years old..You just dont get it!

I pay a huge $19,000 insurance bill every year along with thousands of other Malibu home owners..

The PROFIT reported by insurance companies every year is in the billions of dollars! If there is a disaster every 10 years and out of 5,000 homes 350 are distroyed then the insurance companies report a small payout..

They insurance companies are still making BILLIONS OF DOLLARS in profit..

I cant believe how ridiculous your statement is..

Yeah we are waiting to have everything that we own and cherish destroyed just so we can fight with the insurance company to get 50% of the value..

Plus what you clearly dont understand is when your home is destroyed you still have to make the mortgage payment, pay the taxes and insurance every month! Just because the house is gone you still owe...

In addition you have to pay for the place that you are living in during the rebuild!

There is no insurance coverage for these costs

THESE ARE HUGE LIABILITIES AND RISKS THAT YOU WILL NEVER EVER BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND!

I still don't understand the hate and anger here. Name calling from both sides. I do understand the need for this to be in OT as it really adds no technical content at this point, but other than that, there really are a lot of little kids here and some that call the other childish should look in the mirror. Just a thought.
As an additional thought, this issue (8500rpm or outrunning a 930 to 90mph) is not going to change the world, and it will not be feeding the hungry down the street or around the world, I would suggest not getting your undies in such a bunch over a FUN or entertaining topic. Seriously, can't we all just get along? Quit being the A-hole that others see us(porsche owners) as. Unless you are an A-hole, then just keep it up.

Wait until execmalibu's Mom and Dad get home from vacation and find out what he's been doing on the internet.
Boy, he will be in big trouble.

OK, back to reality.

WHEN is the dyno run? THAT will satisfy the 8500 RPM issue, as the dyno will be calibrated. SOMEBODY out there get this done! pleeease?

I must say I find it rather incomprehensible that the thread starter is still posting. I am not siding with neither party, I don´t have the competence to evaluate the claims and I don´t find it worth squabbling over. But had I come to a new forum and received such a response to my first post - I would have logged out for good some twenty pages ago.

Note, I am not claiming whether he had it coming or not. Just that either way I would have stamped out a long time ago.

early Nov. (see above - if you can stand it)

Actually, the thread started elsewhere (OT?) and was moved to the tech forum -- initially, performance claims were being discussed

X-ech did not cast the first stone -- go to p.1 and you can see some unkind things said about the sort of person who would post an eBay ad of this nature.

However, he certainly is not shy about making ad hominem attacks. I imagine his dogs would be embarrassed to read this.

And, whatever means he used to build his fortune (assuming he did so, and Dave B. suggests he has, so I think that we can rely on that); it surely did not involve writing skill. And we can be sure that he is neither a statistician or involved in the insurance industry in any way.

So, let us see what claims are substantiated in early Nov. -- if there is no wiggling out from a dyno run.

I googled it and found this---Smart 4two with an Suzuki GSXR1000 Engine which has been tuned to 180 bhp (120 more bhp then the stock Smart).---not quite as standard as the 2.4 Porsche!
Beautiful sounds tho.

165 MPH indicated is possible. 165 actual, depending on the tranny, tire size, etc is still _possibble_.

My 914/6 has an S Bosch distributor and it is rev limited to 7200 rpm. it is running 80 mph at 3500 in 5th gear. I have worked a long time to get the tire size right and I use a GPS unit to verify the speed. The speedo and the GPS unit match within 1 mph.

The engine was a 2.0 (original engine, with matching #), someone modded it to a 2.2 before I bought it. When I had it rebuilt "right", I change the crank and rods to 2.4l and change the pistons/cylinders to 2.7RS spec and added S cams. I expect it is around 240hp (I should Dyno it just for the sake of the it) now.

2000 lbs (2200 with driver) in the 914/6 will have no problem exceeding 165. The gearing on 5th limits me to about 165. If I put in a flipped H, I expect I could do 180mph.

So, I think it is possible, but more likely an "indicated" 165 mph.

I'm sorry Redbeard, but I have a couple problems with a few of your assumptions. With all due respect, getting 240 out of a 2.4litre is a specific output of 100hp per litre, which is very high, especially for an air cooled motor runnign the stock intake sstem. Too high for real plausibility.

Then, you say you are geared for 165 which may be accurate, but I am very doubtful that a 2.4 has the ponies to push the aero shape to that speed. And 180???NO way. None!

Remember, the ad stated "stock", and lacked the word "indicated", so it's not very pausable. And really, any moron can make their speedo "say" 165....but it's another thing entirely to hit 165 in a car -with the traga top OFF - with around 200hp.

Bottom line, the ebay ad was a lie, either the engine isn't as represented, orthe calims are bunk.

Well see.

Whats the dyno date, and who do I send my donation to?

If you didnt know that the drag goes up at the square of the speed and that double the speed needs eight times the horspower---anything is possible!

Oh I agree with you. I expect the 165 is only indicated.

On my car, the engine is not a 2.4l its a 2.7l and built to RS specs. The minimum hp should be 210. The "book" says it should make 240 with the headers and low backpressure exhaust I'm running. The 'seat of the pants test' says it is way more than the tired 2.2 I was running before.

Donations are always appreciated!

Simple math:

If 7300 rpm redline = 145 mph

then

8500 rpm = 8500/7300 * 145 = 168 mph

So, at least he got the math right...

Aurel
