I will never vote for a Republican again

Never. Period. I am a devout non-partisan. And I often cannot decide who I hate more - the Dems or the Repubs. But after seeing the blatently racist ad that the Republicans ran against Harold Ford in Tenn., I am convinced the Repubs have no right ever to hold office again. I do not care how desperate they are. I do not care what the justification or explanation is. They deliberately ripped the scab off of a slowly healing wound in America and so they have put their own interests before the good of the country. And aside from a weak and unbelievable comment from Fords opponent, there have been NO republicans who have denounced the ad. And so I hold all of them responsible. IMO they have proven themselves unworthy of holding public office. I may not be able to bring myself to vote for the Dems, but I am very certain I will never cast my vote for a republican candidate again. Finis.

Interesting article in our local paper about the demise of the conservative movement, much like the liberal movement died a few decades ago. The article said there is no clear direction today, and Republican enrollment is actually declining, Democratic affiliation is NOT growing, and the largest growing group show no party affiliation. As for political ads, I generally use the ads as a measuring stick helping me decide who I should vote for. The more strident and personal the ad, the less likely I will vote for the candidate "approving", either tacitedly or by saying nothing. This year, there seem to be far more ads concerning personal aspects of the opposing candidate, and from what I have been able to discern, those put out by the Republican party seem to be far more negative than the Dems. Not to say that the Dems are more noble, just less skilled in the art of putting together ads that border on libel, but legally stay just on the line. Ads that mock a candidate's choice of cigar, that infer a negative bias toward women, based on works of fiction, show a desperation that I hope the voters will ignore. Opiners that ridicule the opposition rather than objectively state the policies of their party are also a turnoff, as are meaningless slogans.

I feel the same way about Dems...Gun Control is my issue, they continually LIE about how bad guns are, when the research shows the complete opposite. They would rather demonize guns and owners rather then deal with the touchy social issue of violence in America. U don't need a gun to kill your wife, just ask OJ.

So I will continue to vote for the Repblicans...Here in NV my choich is Jimmy Carter Jr or Ensign for Senator....duh....give me Ensign....

SO, tabs...You are a one issue voter?

I am not anti gun, but why are firearms SO important that they trump the international and other domestic problems facing the nation? You have the NRA, fer crying out loud, with more power than perhaps any other group of lobbyists. Be happy with that. Move on.

The NRA needs people to vote the issue to remain effective.

There really isn't much choich between A or B....so if I need to differentiate, I'll go Repblican...

Besides I agree with the Privatization of SS, lower taxes etc...vs the redistribution of wealth programs of the Dems...

The more I learn about the gun voters, the less I like what I see. I should say that I don't have strong feelings one way or the other, but the NRA folks seem stuck in 1930, like having a gun is going to do anything to protect them from a government that can spy us, monitor our movements, film our actions, keep track of us using electronic devices, imprison and try us before "military tribunals," choke us economically, and make our country less secure by fermenting Islamic radicalism.

All that is fine, as long as they can "defend" themselves with a freakin gun. Fat chance, guys. If you want to carry a gun, fine. But be aware that there are many threats to your life and liberty that make guns irrelevant by comparison.

One issue voters do themselves and their country a disservice.

And back on topic, I'm with you on that horrible commercial Janus.

Yea, I posted that days ago.

Am I to understand that if the dancer were black the ad would not be racist? Isn't THAT racist?

It clearly tries to scare white racist men into thinking Harold Ford is gonna steal their women. Plus, it is blatently sexual in content and was aired on network TV - so much for the party of family values, right? Who here wants to answer the inevitable questions from their kids when they see that ad?

Oh yeah, and apparently it has boosted the poll numbers of Ford's opponent. I guess the GOP is correct in assuming their voters are inherently racist and they aren't even trying to hide it anymore. Yet another reason to never vote for the party again.

I could understand the war and the defict and even the Foley scandal as mere incompetence. But this is evil. Pure and simple. And as I said before, the whole party appears to be on board. NOBODY in the Republican party has said anything bad about this ad except to endorse it. Yeah, Fords opponent made a weak comment and said he wanted it off the air...but it didn't actually get pulled until days later. Obviously Fords opponent was lying. I'm certain if had *really* opposed the ad it would have vanished in a NY minute.

Never. I don't care who the candidate is. I don't care what the issues are. I will never vote for a Republican again. I think I'll be voting "third party" for a long time to come.

It started when they decided to create a sexually charged ad with a fabricated relationship between Ford and a young woman. That *alone* is offensive enough to make me mad. Then, obviously, someone had to hire the actress. And yes, it is clear as day to me that they decided to play the race card. And then even after it was clear that may people considered it a racist ad, they KEPT AIRING IT. So obviously they were pretty okay with people thinking it was racist. Frankly, I don't care if you see it or not. I am done with republicans. Period.

So why do you think they decided to hire a white actress? Can you honestly say it was *random*? NOTHING in political ads is random. Everything is a choice intended to get the candidate elected. It is not cinema verite. So everything about her was a choice. If you can come up with a different plausible explanation for that choice, then go for it.

Fair enough, but no I don't see it. I can only imagine the ridicule if they had shown a trashy black woman. That would have been seized upon as a stereotype.

It didn't occur to me to be offended at the idea of a black man and a white woman.

You gotta do what you gotta do though so good luck to ya.

It is insulting that politicians believe the voters can be swayed by such crap, and it's equally insulting that some of you guys will let such trash sway your opinion. Look past the drivel and look at the issues, something which neither regime (Repub or Dem) chooses to do.

It is very clear that the inclusion of the White Chick is to infer that Harold is of low moral charcater, rather than a racist slur...

Issues were hit in the ad in a round about way..Gun Control and Taxes were issues that the common folk of Tennesse expounded upon as well as Harold being connected to porn and being of low moral character by fooling around with easy women.

I'd heard about this ad for a few days now but this is the first time I've actually seen it. STOOPID! But certainly not racist.
