Boycott Stores Open on Thanksgiving
It's a shame that retailers can force employees in on Thanksgiving just to make a few extra bucks. It shows a lack of respect for the day. I am boycotting those stores that are open today in my neck o' the woods: K-Mart, CompUSA, BJs.

Force employees? Those folks are making time and a half today. I doubt any force was nessecary.

They don't necessarily pay time and a half, but jobs are voluntary. If you don't like the thought of possibly being scheduled on Thanksgiving, ask for it off or don't work there.
The only stores I'm boycotting are the ones that have had plastic Santas and Christmas trees and music in their stores since before Halloween. That's the crap that irritates me. (Shameless plug) Nordstrom is DELIBERATELY not doing any holiday/Christmas stuff until tomorrow. For that, they're getting a very significant portion of my holiday shopping business. It's nice when a business lets people celebrate one holiday at a time - the fact that they've got enough common sense to recognize this is worth my business (and a letter thanking them, from a customer's standpoint, which I sent a week or so ago).

I suppose you won't go to the local supermarket today if you need some butter.

Boycott business' open on thanksgiving?! I wish I could find anyplace at all that's actually open today.
The simple fact that almost no place is open sucks for those of us in the airline industry who are actually out on the road flying all of you folks to be with your families. Personally, I'm famished because I can't find one darn place open here near my hotel in San Jose, CA. Not everyone can be home on Thanksgiving. For those of us NOT home today, I guess it's a forced day of fasting. |

Almost everyplace around here is open today. Both of my kids are working at a place that serves food, and on the way back from my mother in laws I passed plenty of parking lots with cars.

I work in a hospital. Does that apply to the proposed boycott?

I sure was happy to be able to fill up with gas and coffee today for my drive to NJ. I won't ever boycott that gas station. I'm sure the owner was crying all the way to the bank and has probably never even heard of Thanksgiving.
