My gosh, this thread is soooo awesome! I can't believe I waited 42 pages before I read it! Freaking incredible bikes! So much fun and beauty!

Do you think mine could be considered a cafe racer? I can go from cafe to cafe...

I well remember those, with the Cycle World road test featuring Springer wheeling one around a flat track. I darn near bought one, but the price was just stupid - something like two grand more than the top of the line Electra Glide.

I was an early member of the old XL List when we tried, as a group effort, to fund a team going after the land speed record for whatever class that thing fit into. The record was held by a Guzzi at the time, we all thought was rather unacceptable.

To make a long story short, the XR1000 just could not breathe well enough to get the job done. It was abandoned in favor of a simple Evo Sportster, which handily secured the record for the Americans.

I can't believe I found a picture so easily - here is what everyone really wanted back in the Ironhead days. Robison Industries "Thunderheads" would really wake up the old Sportsters:

Not cafe, but my new racer. Parts ordered and prep is coming soon to make it race legal. Gotta buy another $70 Harbor Freight drill press for my bolt/nut drilling. I keep buying these things and throwing them away thinking I won't need them again

I don't think I'd try them without a press. They do look more convenient than a basic clamp, though. Might have to try one this time around.

Jeff, its a RC390. 375cc single. Its the Cup version sold for race only in the now-defunct Moto America series. Basically a stock street bike with about 200 kit parts from KTM and other manufacturers. Ready To Race.
