Opinions on this guitar?
I'm looking for a nice, hollow body guitar. I like the Gretsches that I've played because they have the Ebony fingerboards-very smooth. Like glass. I don't have any experience with the newer stuff though. |

I can't offer and real opinions, but it's a beauty. I really should play more.... (sigh)

It's gonna go north of 1k. Value is somewhere between $1400 and $2000.
Lot of scratch for a rig that you're not familiar with. Scott

slap a new neck with ebony fretboard on the tele and be happy. Or go with maple.
i wouldn't buy a guitar like that long distance. I've played some Gretchs that were total dogs. In fact I've played a lot of expensive guitars that were dogs. |

Great guitar for jazz/blues/rockabilly. You really need to "try before you buy" if at all possible. I met Fred Gretsch at a NAMM show back in 2000 and he is a very personable man and proud of his family's business. I wish I played another instrument besides drums, but perhaps the guitarists on this board will give your their opinion.

I love those! Although being from a "collection", it's hard to tell without having it "hands on" if it's a "player" or a "shower"...

I guess the concensus is, here and elsewhere, to not buy unless you can lay your hands on it. Makes sense. But the temptation!
I will look at Gretsches and Rickenbackers locally. I'll see about fitting the ebony fingerboard to whatever I get, but not the tele because I want a hollow body. Thank you for the help and more opinions on guitars are certainly welcome.

I recently picked up my old Eko (Italy) hollow body electric again after many years of collecting dust. That Gretsch is beautiful. I fear I wouldn't know a good one from a "dog" after playing this beast for so long! At under $1k it looks like a winner.

Sold for just north of a grand. Probably a great deal, but I passed. My limit was $950 to buy this unknown. The search continues.
