Compared to people yes, however I must admit I was pulling for the horse also. I am on the "it's just an animal" side of the fence when it comes to spending $1000 at the vet on a 13 year old dog or cat, but I guess I retain a soft spot for horses from when I was a kid begging my parents for a pony.

Well, as a horse racing enthusiast, I can assure you that I am crying because he was doing better...I honestly didn't see it coming. So I am in NO way crying over the big dollars--far from it! I hate that it took such a tragic event for the whole nation to be tuned into horse racing, of only for a brief time, but I'm glad it did get some people interested. Maybe some of them will stick around to watch the good things that happen out on the racetrack.

I wonder if it's the animal's value that brings on such strange jocularity about it being euthanized. If so, here's an alternative race animal.
But hey, if they break a leg, don't worry, they're just dogs.

Ok - I no longer am complaining about my job or career. Problably won't complain about it for the rest of my life.

I know it is serious business, but I can't imagine that guy explaining what he does for a living at a cocktail party.

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Woa, Nellie..."

I too was hoping Barbaro could live out his life eating hay and messing around. I would be surprised though if Barbaro is bred. Horse breeders are uber-serious about the gene stocks they chose to breed and like it or not, while Barbaro was fast, he was also fragile. When your bones fail to possess the ability to cope with the forces imposed, you have crossed a line of functionality.

I am, a animal liker. I like all animals. But that racing dog picture is sick. If you have seen the pictures of the dogs that are past their prime, and the conditions they endure, then you might get a different opinion. There are some people that take advantage of these animals for their own benefit (money) and when the are done with them, they dont give a sh#t. A racing horse is a beautiful thing in itself, and I wish each to live out in stud, but the dirty side of racing came out with Barbaro.
