We have it because it has a couple of nice features (in descending likelyhood of use). As mentioned above, it has lock out service that is instantaneous and a phone call away, airbag deployment alert that informs Onstar personel who in turn call you and, if necessary call 911, and GPS locator that can help officials track you if you are compromised and lost.

In the unlikely event you need the last 2, it won't be on your list. For me, the 1st thing on the list was enough.

I have been holding out buying a new stereo for my Tahoe (the cd player sheated out) because of the OnStar.

Sweet now I don't have to worry about it. Alpine, here I come.

On a related note, when the Tahoe was my primary driver, and I drove to the Western Slope of Colorado (Grand Junction, Craig, etc.) I never had a problem getting a signal with OnStar.
