Oh, and the best part? The stands are about 1/4 full so you can actually buy a beer, take a leak and go home after the race without a line.

Sunday was my first NASCAR race also, for the money they are charging you think they could do better than the cold hard aluminum bleacher seats you expect at a high school football field!
I must say I was impressed with the fans, certainly not the red neck stereotype we joke about. With their $20 hats $40 T-shirts $150 team jackets $400 radio scanners. Also impressed by the cars, they sure make a great noise! Metrolink is the only way to go, especially if you leave from union station they run non-stop to the track and back. My buddy went down to the end of the track to have a smoke so I walked down there with him and looked down on the freeway... suddenly we heard *smack* and looked out on the freeway where some lady in a mini van hit the center divider then did three 360's across all lanes and came to a stop right below us... we hadn't even got on the train and already saw an accident! Froze our butts off, I sat on the uncomfortable bleachers for the first 150 laps, then I walked around up to about 40 laps to go, we decided to split for the train with 7 to go because it was just too cold. I got the tickets for free... would I do it again? Probably not... maybe the infield would be more fun. At least I can say been there done that (but I didn't buy the T-shirt).

Yeah, the ol' CamAm days at Riverside were pretty wild both day and night, depending on where you were...
...or who you were with. Long Beach is a big party that barely pauses for a race. But, Talladega takes home the prize for drunken idiots that manage to roll several trucks, break few bones and generally produce more chicken bones than the Colenel. |

Camped on back side near the cork screw at Laguna seca for the motorcycle races (to see Kenny Roberts race)
Now that was an interesting crowd... Went ot Long Beach once but from the bleacher seats you only see a tiny bit of the race, I much prefer to watch it on TV.
