I plan to join soon. I went to one of the last autocrosses of the year last fall in Stockton and it was a hoot. Parked next to this gray haired fellow who was putting on kneepads and protective gear to change out the tires on his old red 911 targa. I commented, "Man, you are serious about this stuff, would you like a hand?" He laughed and said no, he had it covered. We talked about cars and various things until it was time to run. Dude could really pedal that 911 around a course.

Turns out he was Terry Zaccone(I was telling someone he was Tony Zuccini, or something like that, and they told me that red targa is famous, has a name, and he was a long time fixture in the Porsche community. Rob also found it hilarious that I said he looked really serious about this stuff.)

I plan to join the PCA this year, just because. I am told you get a discount on stuff at the Porsche dealer, which would be nice. Of course I will never do any business with Niello Porsche because I have had prior dealings with businesses owned by Roger Niello and none have been positive, so that may not help me out that much.

Not to hijack or anything, but does the local dealership get brownie points from Porsche for members of the PCA in their region? If they do, I will be forced to join in GGR instead of Sac Valley Region.

Member for 6 years. Originally in Orange County PCA for AutoX and Donuts. Up in NorCal, I'm a Redwood Region member, again for AutoX. The GGR region has a great track schedule and super instructors, so that's worth the price of membership (actually I'm a dual member) alone. And some places will give you 10% discount for being a member.

I was a member for awhile. Did the same events every year. Went to the planning meeting one year cause they wanted some new ideas. Shot a couple ideas out, blank stares….we did all the same events that year too.

Panorama is okay but it is mostly about patting Porsche on the back. I also noticed at least here our track and driving events are open to non-members, so membership had little benefit.

For the most part older guys with new Boxsters. Very few hands on gearheads like myself. Nice people never felt surrounded by snobs or anything like that. But I have had MUCH more fun attending Pelican and GruppeB get togethers.

Yup. member for 33 yrs. Early years (before kids) very active, lots to do if you get involved. In my experience it's up to the member to get off their respective butt and make things happen. If you're in a region that doesn't "do anything" you want to do...then you can plan & make it happen! You'll probably end up running the place so beware!

Seems like the one's that ***** the most, contribute the least. Pls don't be one of "them". Don't take no for an answer. Every region is run by volunteers, so volunteer today and take over tomorrow. I've said enuff.

Now that my kids are all grow-up, it's time for me to get off my butt and get active again.

We must get you to come out to Autocross soon.
BTW, you guys lost me in the twisties on Saturday.

Not for long tho...

I thought you turned off at the falls, like you had to be going or something. Jamie and I sure ha fun up above the falls and out past the sawmill.

Autocross? Me? I'm too easily confused. I'm much more at home on the track, where it looks like a real road. You'll have to join us in your new 911 when you get it.

If it was Daytona I might have tried to go. I really want to do Sebring I have basically done Moroso and Homestead a whole bunch but not with the PCA.

Jeremy's got it right. You've got to get involved if you want to see a change in your region. I can pretty much guarantee you that the people running your region would welcome any help with open arms. Most of my region's board consists of people who've been in the club for less than five years. I served as my region president for two years, 1993-1994, and I was more than happy to hand over the steering wheel to the next President.

Funny, but an innocent invitation to a board meeting back in 1991 has led to a 16 year run of helping out in the region, zone and national. If you would've told me in 1989 that I was going to co-chair a Parade, get a club racing license and get an overall win at a Parade concours, I would've asked to see the pipe you were smoking

i'm a member and have enjoyed DE's and concours(phx. and tucson). and those (2) are on opposite extremes. polar opposite extremes. met some cool people. learned a hell of alot, and really wouldnt mind becoming a concours judge and attending PCA concours judging school. hell at the very least i will know what to look for when i decide to purchase my next porsche!

would love to go on one of the monthly runs, its just finding time.

My problem is time too. I would love to be able to give more to the club but just getting to the DEs is hard enough. I instruct but to me that's not really giving.

fwiw, you don't have to be a chair or on the board to help. Instructing, helping out at registration, tech, the person who holds the clipboard for the waivers, etc. I don't hold a board position, but I volunteered to be registrar for the slot car night our region holds every year. I also emcee the holiday party. Every little bit of coal helps the steam train chug along.

Nope, I was still with your guys at the falls. Lost me somewhere past that point, where we could take a right and head about a mile into town and back to I-90.

Even if the cones are confusing, it's still fun to drive around them. After a few laps, it starts to become clear...

Too much emphasis on "events" and not enough on the technical aspects. Have been a member for 12 years and have re-upped to give the local another stab at things other than "concours", rallys" and "shows". These are all nice, but in some instances take a lot more gold than I am willing to spend on a car.
