what are you using for a kite?
i used to have a very high performance one (can't remember the brand) which was around a 48" span.... i'm looking to replace it with something as fun and fast and am wondering which kits to look at, and which to stay away from.....and where to get ![]() thanks

I have about a dozen high performance kites. Not top of the line, but in the $200+ range. I have both two line, as well as quad-line kites. The quads are pretty awesome, you can control them laft to right as well as stop on a dime. It's pretty cool to see it flying down at the ground only to stop inches away. They don't really look like you expect a kite to look though.
I usually buy a new one while on vacation... but www.intothewind.com is the place to buy. Their forum has been pretty good as well.

I've got a wide variatey of under $10 specials.... typically just fly for 15 or 20 min. between work and teaching class... my most fun one is a parafoil, but it needs *serious* wind to get up...
BTW - consider investing in a large spinning reel - like a surf rod would use. Handles thin nylon line fine and its a LOT easier to pull your kite in with a reel than by hand

I haven't flown a kite in about 10 years, but I do have a really nice Jam Session, as well as a quad string kite. I would be willing to part with them if anyone is interested, as I don't envision using them again.

I have a couple of two-string kites -- I know one is a 15 year old "Skyasour." And I have a couple of newer 2-string stunt kites.
Never got into the 4-string kites, though they do sound like fun... I'll get the names of my newer kites when I get home tonight... -Z

I have a two-line sport kite that was made by 'Air Crafts' in the UK. I don't know if they still make kites. It flies great and I use the Spectra lines that make a very cool whistling/screaming sound as you cut the kite across the wind. Great fun - anyone who thinks kites are for kids needs to try a good sport kit.
I really want to try a power-foil. Might have to look into getting one.

Bell,
Thanks to your post, which rekindled my belief that summer may actually come to Chicago someday, I just purchased this. Not a kite, but it still flies--so no hijack.
