That's why I think hypenated names are presumptuous, self-centered, impractical, unwieldy and not very thoughful.

Presumptuous?
How about making assumptions about a person based on their name?

Like I said before, if having a hyphenated name is the biggest issue for my (hypothetical) children, then I will go to bed each night feeling blessed.

Based on genetics, there is a good chance that they will have heads like prize-winning pumpkins, and won't be able to throw or catch any type of ball. That's what I worry about.

And why is it that actors and actresses all have three names?

Hyphenated names are not self-centered, naming your kid after yourself is.

Skip a generation for cryin' out loud. Honor you father or mother by naming your kid after them, not yourself.

I'm so great that there needs to be another me.

George Foreman has eight (?) sons with the same name. Give me a break.

My $0.02.

Why not settle on a universal hyphenated name? . . .Like: I'm-too-important-to-just-keep-tradition-and-want-my-kids-friend-to-know-mommy-wears-the-pants-daddy-is-a-wuss

Funny thread, you guys are a hoot.

My wife didn't take my name, and the deal was if she went hyphenated I had to as well.

I said, "I'm not changing my name after 30 years, that's crazy!" She said "I agree!"

But our kids will have hyphenated names. Doesn't bother me one bit. A name is just a name. I'll be a lot more concerned with my kids' upbringing and moral character than their names.

FWIW, a guy I know took his wife's name, not even hyphenated. Whatever, he's happy and so is she.
Holly cow. What a miracle. How'd you have kids without your kahones?

Guy I work with took his wifes name, beyond the pile of trouble it took to get it done, I hope it was worth it. We now call him "Mrs. Anderson."

Those are hypothetical kids, so I guess I haven't proven a damn thing yet!

Sure you have. You've proven it's impossible to have kids when your kahones are in you wife's purse!

I wish I had time to hack out a snappy retort, but I have to get supper ready before she gets home!
