My dad has an old one we keep on the mountain. It is all busted up but keeps running and is pretty excellent off road. I cannot imagine a blazer or suburban from the same era (1987) even running..

Here's my RR. It drove right out!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175562722.jpg Sold it and bought this... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175562946.jpg There are things I miss about the RR, but the FJ has yet to let me down. After 9 months, no problems whereas after 9 months the RR had been in the shop 5 times and had a new engine in it... Cheers, Paul. |
That Toyota ain't gonna break.

My wife bought a 1999 Land Rover Discovery II a couple of years ago for $11K with 80K miles.
Earlier this year traded it in on a 2007 Xterra Offroad The dealer offered us $4K for the Rover (123K miles). I thought this was great deal since the Rover needed more than $5K in work to keep it on the road: A/C and heat inoperable bald tires brake system warning lights on (aka the "three amigos") failing rear self-leveling suspension leaking head gasket/rear main seal |
From what I've read, high price, bad reliability, bad gas mileage.
From the movie, Queen Elizabeth likes to toot around her Scotland estate in one. |
1991 GDE, #261 of 400
Only thing that has been replaced on the truck:
(I did after I bought it 3 years ago) - 4 new rotors, wheel bearings, break pads. - replaced heater core. Truck has 232K miles, runs like a top & I can get about 18 MPG. It is truely amazing off-road, and I think very few stock vehicles could perform as well. And I've owned several toyotas. It will climb rocks & ledges with little effort and your typical fire/forest road feels like pavement at 60mph. Maybe I got lucky with this one, but......best truck I've ever owned. Honest. damn.......I just got excited! I can't wait till the weekend! I'm heading to the mountains! |

UPDATE:
He now has my Rover back up for sale at a slightly increased price:D I feel better knowing he's not dumping money into it. |
My good friend has gone through two RR Sport Supercharged in 7 months. He bought the first one as a demo model. If you see the video of the RR flying up Pikes Peak..thats the one he bought. More electical gremlins than a poor condition MG. So bad, infact, RR gave him a brand new RR Sport Supercharged. In the first snow here in Denver, it slipped at about 8 miles an hour on some ice, curbed the $1600 a piece wheels and the air bags deployed....grand total of $12k worth of damage.
The guys at the RR dealership had a service loaner named after him...... Three weeks ago, he traded for a 2006 911 and will be getting a loaded used Yukon for $15k.. I will never buy a Range Rover... |
I have owned 3 Rovers.
1st Rover was a Brand New 99 Disco II Special Vehicle. Orange all the goodies. Had it only in the shop for 2 Service checkups. Sold it with 72000 Not a problem. 2nd 95 Range Rover LWB - 60000 miles sold it to my dad who now has 11000 and all he has done is replaced the light switch and oil changes, trans fluid and diff changes. 3rd Just bougt is a 2002 Disco 2 .. People buy these things thinking they are "Chevys" they are work horses and have heavy dute parts that need either cleaning/greasing or periodic inspection. A rover does have a few goofy things but over all most of the buyers usually by just because of the looks and don't pay any attention to the maint like we do with Porsches. I always did most of the minor work on the disco and the rover. I love them. My second favorite ride to the 911!! |
