Sold my Range Rover tonight, random humor.

Truck had been sitting for two+ years, needed love and I offered it at a "get it gone price". A pleasant but odd guy in his 40's drives in from an hour away (on a moped) and offers me $50 less than my asking price (after over an hour of inspection)...I relent and he pays cash. After I sign the title the guy literally jumps into the air and pumps his fist and exclaims "I've got a Range Rover, YEA!", I **** you not.

I was torn between finding satisfaction in my contribution to his glee and feeling sorry for his impending realizations:D

Been there. Done that. Nothing will cure you of wanting a Range Rover like owning one!

Cheers,

Paul.

Thanks. Very funny. In fact, made my evening. There's a short story in there somewhere.

I'm sure there will be more, he picks it up tomorrow. I told him that he bought it "as it sits" at the time (two flat tires, on the bump-stops), but after the fist pump I had to air up the tires and suspension:D

LOL!

Good on you for taking cash. I'd have counted it before he ever left the driveway.

Did he make it to the end of the block at least? :P

lendaddy 03-30-2007 08:22 PM

lol, the guy wasn't "special" but he could fool ya if he had to. I made it clear to him that if he felt over his head he should part it out and would surely turn a profit (which he would).

I wish I could sell mine. I'll probably end up donating it for the tax deduction.

lendaddy 03-30-2007 08:38 PM

OK I have to confess the numbers before my reputation takes a dive.

I let it go for $850

That's right, $850. The truck was $60,000 12 years ago. I feel no guilt:D

Advertise it in Bend. That's where I sold mine.

Good luck,

Paul.

Craigslist is your friend.

You and he are living that joke about *happiest day of my life/2nd happiest day of my life, etc...* :D

There's a Jeep somewhere that can pull him out...

Ouch! A freind of mine is considering a used Land Rover that came from auction. I'll have to show him this thread.

Finally unloaded my '97 Land Rover Discovery last Spring. Worst vehicle I've ever owned. Everything fell apart on that thing. Rust like you wouldn't believe. Worst part was Land Rover's complete denial that there was anything wrong with the vehicle. Wouldn't even honor the rust warranty. Never again.

Likewise. A horrible excuse for a motor vehicle.

I was recently tempted. A friend was selling his '99 Range Rover for $1500...with blown head gasket. It sure looked nice in the driveway.

Craigslist made it disappear in two days.

Glad I'm not alone here, I had a brand new 99' that started leaking oil about a month into ownership. Only problem is Land Rover considered my "leaks" a "seeps." So it was not covered. That thing pissed oil on my garage floor until the lease ran out, that's when it was actually in my garage and not in theirs. I laugh a little inside whenever I see one with a new temp tag on on it.

I looked really hard at used ones about a year and a half ago. They were in the same price and mileage range as the Xterra I ended up getting. I really wanted the Disco, but all I heard were stories like this and decided I needed something more reliable.

Paul K 03-31-2007 06:39 AM

Reliability was the only issue, but it sure was a big one. I bought a 2000 4.6 HSE in '04 with 47k on the clock for $30k from a LR dealership. Got the extended warranty- best move I ever made. After replacing the block, HVAC control head three times, eas compressor once, and many, many other little things, I sold it in '06 for $17k. If it weren't for the reliability issues, I'd still be driving it. For $70k, they should be more reliable. I won't buy another until I am confident the reliability issues are fixed. Doesn't sound like they are yet. As for the "happiest day of my life/2nd happiest day of my life, etc.." I put it this way. Range Rover ownership is like dating a really hot chicky babe...who cheats on you...

Cheers,

Paul.

Mine was great until the last couple of years to be honest. We put over 100k miles on it before things turned bad.
