It was fun to watch yesterday. Jerry (yes, his name is Jerry, or that was what he used when he went to college down in Tucson Arizona in the '80s. He was a loudmouth SOB then as well.) finally settled down afterwards and realized that he had gone overboard.
Funny how he "became" Geraldo after going into the news casting business trying to suck up the "I am a poor immigrant" position at various networks.

Fox News, taking programming hints from the WWF now?
I don't think that was fake though. Geraldo shouldn't have mentioned Irish drunks, that's what got Bill into a Snit.

The fight was in fact about something important. O'Reilly's anger was to the point and, I think, genuine. He began civilly. The shouting started when Rivera filibustered, refused to allow O'Reilly to respond, then made a series of lazy, kneejerk slanders. To equate an insistence on strict justice when an immigrant is involved with bigotry is, well, lazy and in bad faith. This is always the first refuge of sloppy thinking ideologues like Rivera. I was entirely sympathetic to O'Reilly's anger. O'Reilly is a showman and an egomaniac but the fact is his opening essays are sensible, sharply written and a public service. (His Boston Latin and Harvard education is good at least for this.) He's also the only person -- at least in a mainstream position -- pointing out the raging bias that is destroying public trust in media. I can see why the Left hates him. Who else talks about the poisonous spread of agenda journalism? Tim Russert? It's a bit of a joke, I guess (and maybe a sad statement of our time), but also true, that Bill O'Reilly has become something of a tribune of inconvenient truths.

He was dating or married to Kurt Vonnegut Jr's daughter. One of my female friends, who was into broadcasting, brought her into town in the late 1970s to hang on one summer day. Needless to say i heard an earful.

I try to keep an open mind one the issue.
The clearest to me is to charge Mexico $1M per unit, including any kids born here. I think the conditions should be flexible politically so just leave collections up to bankers on both sides whom everyone respects. Late payments will entail control of Mexican oil fields as either partial payments, colotora, full payment etc.. the bankers will figure it out. The $1M each will be used for their education and standard of living. This is how education got started in this country around 1900 +-10 with different breeds. The management of their introduction to the US will be on the open market.. meaning no NEA or sister teacher unions. Somebody has to push rational policy. Congress wants to avoid the issue as much as possible. It's one of those political footballs like gun rights, abortions, campaign finance, etc. A politician can only hope to survive the issue. A $1M fine and get the issue out of congress. There is no reason Mexico shouldn't pay for this bs instead of the US taxpayer.

Of course heraldo will argue in favor of the immigrant, they are of the same race so he will speak out on his behalf no matter what, which makes him a racist. At any rate, he is not a professional, he's a tabloid hack.
According the government studies, illegal immigrants are more than twice as likely to be involved in an alcohol related accident as natives of the US. Just like the guy who killed two people in malibu a couple of days ago, his BOC was three times the limit, he was going the wrong way on the road, and he was an illegal. |

Clearly that was two sensationalist "journalists" arguing two important issues. Drunk driving and illegal immigration. Ol' Jerry was right that they are not related. But Billy boy was also correct in that if Ramos was deported he probably would not have been on that road at that time drunk.
Close the border.

Unfortunately we just send them back. Recently (the last 2 months) the SO has finally started holding them, were-as before they just turned them loose. Agree with SeaHawk. We can secure our borders and must do so immediately. If the wetbacks can get in, so can terrorists and others that should be be roaming around our country. Joe

The solution to illegal alien immigration is simple:
1. For every illegal alien caught, no matter the circumstances, we bill the Mexican government for all costs associated with deporting each alien. I would privatize this and make cost + fee contracts the standard. 2. If/when Mexico doesn't pay, the $ are just deducted from foreign aid packages or added to a tariff outside of NAFTA 3. Every business caught employing illegal aliens is fined 2X the industry/regional standard annual salary for every year that alien was employed, no pro-rate, so if employed for 13 months, the company is still fined for 2 years of salary. 4. Companies found employeeing illegal aliens cannot bid on or receive government contracts for 5 years after discovery 5. 2-tier tax credit for business: 1. If you are in an industry that typically hires foreign labor, you get an XX% tax credit for every American citizen you employ that would normally be filled by an immigrant 2. You get a X% credit for every legal immigrant you hire 6. All illegal aliens must go back to Mexico and apply for legal, temporary status. This would work in concert with businesses here in the states who would determine who is here illegally, pay for their bus trip back to Mexico, get the temporary status paperwork completed, get them back to work. See above on tax credit. 7. All illegal aliens back in the States must attend business/government sponsored U.S. History and English classes for 1 year. That's a start. EDIT: both of these guys above are journalistic buffoons. Geraldo is a sensationalist. Bill just wants to sell you crap made in China.
