Just imagine if they bought a $3000 944 and put $10,000 into it? They'd have one hell of a sweet track car.

Or how about a $10,000 951 with $3000 in mods or a $13,000 911?
I think part of the probelm with this theory is that all the tuner cars are the driver's only form of transport so it has to be a turn key car everyday. I am not too far removed from the tuners b/c from high to college I had 3 RX-7s and one Miata. All four of these cars had to be turn key cars to get me short trips for beer runs and to class and long trips of 4+ hour drives home. I treated those cars similar to the tuner scene now in that I added mods that I could afford and that could be done over a weekend and ready to drice again on Monday. It wasn't until the 3rd gen. twin turbo RX-7 that any of these Mazdas let me down in this role and I then had to sell it since I could not pay for parts or repairs and I could not depend on it as my turn key car. Part of what gets a lot of guys when it comes to the tuners is the gaudy not-so-functional mods like huge wings and stupid graphics. Granted almost every mod I did to my Mazdas was funciton and not able to be seen in most cases. I love my SC but I sure do have a fond spot in my heart for those Mazdas so I don't really dislike tuner kids.

Then they would be their own target. It's paradoxal...like time travel. If you have the car that you are trying to beat you cease to exist.

My 12 year old loves to drift the shopping cart!
Only three and a bit years and he'll be asking for the keys to the 911. I hope drifting is out of fashion by then.

KWM - A guy that came from a 1/4 mile background started Autocrossing.

At his first few events he came with a box full of these t-shirts that he sold for $10 each. I bought 2 because I never laughed so hard. I still have 1 and have never worn either. I gave 1 away.
