That character is not cool, it is not funny, it is not a role model.
"Yeah, well... that's just like... your opinion, man."

Really though, I don't even know where to start in response to your comment. If you don't like it, why bother commenting? Unless you're just an instigator, and you like to rile people up. That I can appreciate. People use idiots for idols all the time. I mean, look at President *****-for-brains... (let the flaming begin), there are plenty of people out there that see him as a role model. Equally, in other parts of the world, Osama.

What I'm saying is, to even make a social "role model" issue of Lebowski is completely ABSURD.

"The Dude" is like one of your friends or that weird uncle... you love him, but you don't look up to him.

ok... i'm done.

The Coen Brothers have the gift of telling an interesting, albeit hard-to-believe story using unusual, funny characters and hilarious dialogue. I have seen all of their movies and like some more than others but they are all unique and interesting.

Wes Anderson is another director that I really enjoy.

John Goodman's character and performance are not to be overlooked. I like to stick out my pinkey and say

"I'm gonna sit here and finish my coffee"

The movie is brilliant, although I always felt the tripping scenes with the flying and the personified bowling ball were over the top. An unnecessary distraction from the rest of the story.

And in the end, no matter what you think about the movie, the Dude abides.

I wonder if anyone else had the same experince I had with The Big Lebowski. I received it as a gift and (believe it or not) I watched it Christmas late morning after the gifts had been opened, breakfast eaten, wrapping cleaned up, etc. I didn't "get" it.

A couple of hours later my son and daughter were watching it and as I walked thrugh the room one of the lines made me chuckle. I sat down and watched it again and I ROARED. It is probably my all time comedy favorite and I know it is actually not a true comedy, its a satire. Couldn't agree more man, "the Dude abides."

My contribution to the classic lines,

"Which kind is 'Log Jammin?"

SammyG - Dude, you need to lighten up. Its just a movie, pull back a bit on the moralizing. It'll all be over soon enough.

That's the general view that a lot of people have about Lebowski, mine as well. The first time it was sort of funny. The second time, hilarious. From there on, you start realizing the genius in all the different aspects of the film.

It is a movie man, lighten up. He ain't a role model.

Just was flipping around and caught a few scenes. How you could watch the scene where Walter tosses his dirty "whites" out instead of the money, jumps out and his Uzi goes off, shooting the Dudes car and leading to his running into a telephone pole and hitting his head(again) and not laugh out loud I do not know.

What the heck is the Happy 420 with a peace sign in the 0 all about?

Hey today is Hitler's Birthday, and the anniversary of Columbine too, I think

Thanks Hardrive, I have never heard of this. If that started in 1971, I don't know where I have been, I smoked a lot of dope in HS and nobody said anything about "420".

Captain Cannibis, that is a comic book? I suppose it is about Willie Nelson.
