Can I block email from a named host?

Is it possible to block all email from a certain host? Nothing but spam originates from there that I can see. Why don't ISP's block these automatically?

It would have to be done on the mail server end... a few ways to do it as well, but it would have to be server side. Nothing you can do to change it...

Thanks! I just now found a "block domain" option on my ISP home page. When I get spammed and choose that option, do you think it will do more than the simple "block sender" and block the entire IP/domain? With all the alias's they use, blocking a sender is worthless to stop spam.

Guess time will tell.

As a one-time extremely agressive anti-spammer, I can tell you it should block the entire domain and mail servers.

I want to find a way to block entire countries, myself. I know it's possible, but I'm not sure how.

Haven't been in the anti-spam thing for a long time. Hunting them down and took to much time.

If you can find out who's responsible, you can make a living off of suing spammer's, you know...if you can collect...

WolfeMacleod - run your own mail server. IP blocks by country should be fairly easy to find out, then just get aggessive with either firewalling or just accept/deny on the SMTP side.

Switched my small office mail server to use Postini. No more junk emails, it's a great service. I don't know if they have a solution for individual accounts.

As I suspected, blocking the domain does nothing but block the alias domain. It should block by IP numbers, but instead it simply blocks by the alias' domain name which could be any domain they chose to use. Stupid waste of time. No spammer worth his weight in penis enlargers, hot stocks, viagra, or free airline tickets uses a real return address.

Of course not. THen there's the aded problem of spammers using Zombie Machines to send out thier trash. Block by IP? Ok...you get the same spam coming from hundreds of different Zombie Machines from all over the world.

By the way, the majority of the world's worst spammers live in Boca Raton, FL. Anyone up for a hunting trip?

Here's a good anti-spam forum I used to requent: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/scambusters
