What a gov't map!
The "pushpin" or "other event" markers are the same color as the fire, so they blend in. Georgia, but no other adjacent state, is shown, and given its own color, which has to be mentioned, specifically, in the legend! How is the lat/long grid displayed in the legend, and why does it need to be in the legend in the first place? Why not include the route sign silhouette and say "Route Sign"? Or a smaller image of the state and say "Florida"? But, seriously, 'tis that fire time for the East. I'm rolling to calls in wildland gear almost as often as in bunker gear right now. We've got another month or so of this, until our wildland/urban interface calls abate and the West starts to kindle. JP

pwd72s - that makes me feel good actually, since all of my TV (news, etc) is from either New York or LA...
Edit - another great link for fire spotting... http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm

The smoke here today is like a morning fog all day long. We've been told not to go outside....

I always thought that if I was a radical islamist terrorist, maybe the easiest thing to do to `attack america` would be to set some land on fire. This sounds a lot less risky than sneaking in Fort Dix with an automaatic rifle or a bomb belt for instance. Of course, I am not implying that this is what is happening, but if this was the case, would the govt. tell us anyway?

I was working in Western West Palm Beach on Wed. and the smoke was alarmingly thick it was VERY hazy out like a California Smog hazy. As I drove back North about 45 mile to home it was much better.
The love bugs are really bad this year they are even by my house in Eastern Jensen Beach which I cannot recall ever seeing them here in the 10 years I have lived here. Thanks U of F you might have given us Gatoraid but the love bugs really suck. I am driving over to Ft. Meyers on Monday I will be sure to take a pic of the carnage on my work truck, it should be black by the time I get there. Its a white truck.
