Hey, nota-
A couple of questions:

1- Where do you want to be in ten years?

2- What are you doing today to get there?

It would be my guess that complaining about something you have no control over, will not in any way help you achieve any goals. I'm not going to expend any energy worrying about Blackstone's pocketbook. I'm going to insure that my own is healthy. I'm not going to rely on Enron or anybody else for a pension. This is a land of opportunity. There are tax laws that are acceptable, and far more that make no sense. But that's the system we have. We can either a) work within the existing system, or b) enter the political arena, and try to change the system.

Or we can complain, and achieve nothing.

retired on a sail boat
I have savings and a pension tooo
little debts
house is paid for ect
as are the cars and boats
never said I was poor or broke

point is neo-conned LIES
and the less the rich pay now
the more my kids [and everyones] will pay in the future
and basic fairness in tax rates
as the super rich should pay a smaller real rate then workers
in a supossed progressive tax system
is NOT OVER TAXED OR FAIR OR JUST

btw ENRON took a mulit million [hundreds] bite out of my state pension system [thanks jeb] on the way down
as the neo-conned try to cover the fall that soon turned into a freefall to ZERO

You have absolutely no idea what the Federal Tax Code states or how the system works. For your information the super rich (and those of us who are only moderately wealthy) pay far more in taxes at higher rates than those with lower incomes. The rates and amounts gathered by income level annually are there on the internet for anyone to see.

Why don't you go learn something and come back with a reasoned argument instead of just whining? You're making yourself look more ignorant with every post.

For starters you might consider a few talking points from wikipedia instead of moveon.org. An English and Spelling teacher might help too.

Let's see, you've tried Iraq, you've tried neo cons, you've tried Bush, you've tried Enron.

Now try reading:
http://www.smbiz.com/sbrl001.html#pis07

You might also want to know that US tax rates (both corporate and personal), while certainly not the highest in the world- are also far form the lowest- and fit well within the average for industralized nations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_rates_around_the_world#_note-5

You might also want to note that these rates are established by Congress- in laws and regulations agreed by both Democrats and Republicans- not "neo-cons" or "Bush" or "Enron" or "Ken Lay". Those words are used by the more intelligent on the left to stir up the blind and ignorant ditch diggers who think they're worth more than they are.

"retired on a sail boat"
Sailboats are a luxury only afforded the rich. You are obliously not paying enough in taxes if you can afford one. Sailboats should be out lawed while there are poor people in America!

"house is paid for ect
as are the cars and boats"
You are not paying your fair share of taxes if you can pay off your house, cars and boat. Actually you shouldn't be allowed to have all three while there are poor people in America that have none. Don't you know that my kids will be paying for your luxuries for years so that you can skip out on sending more money to the government!
You should sell your house, cars and boat and give the money to the government, they can best decide who to give it back too.

Have you ever stepped back and thought maybe the gov should take less from everyone? Maybe they should learn to budget and do with less?

You probably have never given it t thought as it's just easier to ramble on about how anyone who makes more than you is an evil money grubbing tax cheat.

It looks like you guys are back at it......talking politics again. You know I hate political discussions but if you guys think it would help, I'll be happy to clear things up with some brilliant observations.

TAXABLE INCOME_______TAX PAID_%____OVER THIS AMT

15,100 61,300 1,510.00 15 15,100
61,300 123,700 8,440.00 25 61,300
123,700 188,450 24,040.00 28 123,700
188,450 336,550 42,170.00 33 188,450
336,550 ....... 91,043.00 35 336,550

SO TWO PEOPLE EACH EARNING 40K PAY 25% ON THE AMT OVER 15.1 K + 15% SS TAX OR 40%

THE RICHEST PAY 35% WITH NO SS OR 15% WITH NO SS IF cg
SO THE UBER RICH PAY EATHOR 5% LESS OR 25% LESS
BUT THEY ARE OVER TAXED ???? BS BS BS BS
AND BuSh2 WANTS NO TAX AT ALL ON DIVIDENDS AND CAPITAL GAINS OR ESTATES
MAKING A UNFAIR RATE WORSE

BTW I WAS AN ACCOUNTING CLERK
i CAN ADD
BUT the numbers just donot = progressive rates
they are regressive with the workers paying more %
then the ownership class and THATS WRONG!!!!!!!!

with one stroke of a pen, one man can wipe away thousands of jobs, in order to obtain growth, ship jobs overseas, make money for the Fat Cats on Wall st. it's a sick game.

how they take the people's money is unreal. YOU make 50K in one year. they make it in one DAY. but they DESERVE it, because they worked so much harder over the years.

Well there it is. Anyone who buys/invests in a stock or mutual fund is a Fat Cat on Wall St expecting a retrun on their investment better than the bank pays

"how they take the people's money is unreal."

I hope you are talking about our Federal Government

No, the take-over specialists buyout companies that have people like you working in them. (You can't even communicate in coherent sentences, or figure out how to use spell-check.) Then the take-over specialists fire the incompetent "workers" and replace them with proficient employees, then resell the formerly poorly run businesses for very substantial profits.

The bureaucrats, non-productive, incompetent and just plain lazy people hate the productive, efficiency-minded, entrepreneurial take-over specialists -- which isn't really surprising at all since the lazy ones get fired when the hardworking managers come onboard!

You are living in a fantasy world from my own real experience (and I am one of the "survivors"). NOTA's version is much more accurate and is only the tip of the iceberg imo. Takeover specialists "slash & burn" a corporation's assets and then flip for a quick profit...much like "flipping houses" except that they destroy peoples lives for a quick boost in the stock price and get paid BIG $$$ for it while others remain to clean up the mess . IMO, they are nothing more than "3 card Monte" dealers using corporate assets as cards, and in the end, it's still just a "shell game" and the dealer usually wins.

I can't defend most takeover entities- and I'm kind of glad that era of business is largely over. But even the attempted takeover can force a company to reassess it's own viability, efficiency, cash flow etc. Business is a dog eat dog world after all.

But I thought we were arguing about the taxes the CEO of Blackstone (or the wealthier in general) paid...not Bush, Enron or the merits of a particular business.

If we're going to get off track maybe we should argue about that champion of the poor (John Edwards) managing hedge fund concerns? Or his use of the tax regulations to start a non-profit (501 C3 as I recall) enterprise to fund his election activities (I understand that haircut was a deductible expense). Republicans aren't the only ones manipulating tax laws for their own advantage- why all the outrage over Blackstone?
