Angry I applied for a membership in the Porsche Club of America, but ...

I get an email saying 'IF' they decide to accept my application, I will be notified in 2-3 weeks.

What's with the 'IF' ? I paid on line with a credit card. I wonder what their stipulations are for becoming a member?

I would never belong to a club that would have me as a member

"If" means "If youse got the credit and the card is good!" Otherwise anything warm and fuzzy is accepted. Rest easy.

Background check, P-car ownership verification, statement from 1st grade teacher, DEA, FBI, CIA, etc, etc, etc. These things take time.

They're simply being diligent about who's coming into the club.

I heard that they had a rash of applicants who were trying to get into the club after buying those "special" Porsches we all hear about on e-bay. There were lots of complains from members. Why they even had someone try to gain membership using a 1/18 scale model!

Hey wait a minute, how do we know that you are not a poser? For example you state you have a 930. Perhaps a 930 built on a VW pan? Just kidding with you!

Really its a simple case of their canned response not quite conveying what they intended it to convey. 2-4 weeks reposnse is the norm. No worries.

you don't get in if you have ever installed a fart can or a greddy sticker on a car - They have ways of checking that, you know...

I think it was less time than that for them to send me a questionnaire after I didn't send a dues renewal check...

Man and you are missing out on all the perks you get once you have the card, I have not had to wait on a table at a dining establishment since I joined!

Make sure to learn the secret handshake now. That's the last test before you can join. If you mess up, you're out for life.

Yes, there ARE benefits...but those seem to vary from region to region. I'm not totally down on PCA...Nationally? Well, you get the magazine every month, and the membership card, which gives you access to any PCA event, anywhere. PCA was the last club I quit, once I'd made the decision to sell the car....but then, it was the first P-car club I joined, back in '67. The times and the attitudes, they do change.

My membership was declined by PCA. I guess I dont know the right people, eat the right cheese, and dont drink the right wine. Oh well, life goes on, and I live life. Or maybe it's because I drive a slantnose. Hmmmmmmm

Most PCA Regions give National permission to accept members on their behalf. A few prefer to give their own acceptance, thus the 'IF'. Regions have their own by-laws and while the majority mirror the national by-laws when it comes to membership, some modify them.

You do need to own a Porsche to join the club, but once you're in, if you become Porsche-less, you can still retain your membership as long as continue renewing. If you still have quesitons, you can email Vu Nguyen at the national office admin@pca.org

I thought all you needed was a Porsche (and some $$) to get in. I had no idea someone could actually be turned away.

So if I bought a 924 for $500, I'd be turned down for readmission?
