I thought that Fender was American and made 400,000 guitars a year.

Thx for the article Lubemaster....Martin's production is up, and they offer many more lower end guitars...im not sure how their high end guitars are today, but id imagine they are still top quality. I have a 1990 Martin D1 (mid-priced at about a $900 guitar because it has laminante sides but solid mahogny top and bottom) which i love...and its a fantastic acoustic guitar both plays and sounds fantastic.

Sold my D12-20 to pick up a Taylor 6 string dreadnought. Seldom a day goes by that I don't wish for something along the lines of a D-28 or 35.
Someday... Like I used to say about owning a 911 I suppose!

I've got a 1967 D-18.
I only wish I could play it! Jess |

my old Italian guy neighbor had a Martin stamped " CF Martin New York". worth a pretty penny I'd guess. I tried to buy it many times before he died and gave it to his daughter. Don't know where it is now.

Like Violins, the wood, glue, shape all play an important role in the sound resonation. Same is true for drums.
I think its funny that Martin #6 can't play very well - I guess thats similar to Ferry Porsche not being a very good driver.

I have a Martin J-40 (great sound) and a Martin uke that belonged to my Grandmother (she played at luau's). Keep your eyes peeled at garage sales and you might get lucky....

Very cool.
I have to agree, "sound" is different than "musical ability" or technical skill. I've always had a good ear for tuning and getting the nuances of the sound right, but I suck at the playing. Just never had the time to sit down and get into "suicide mode" with respect to doing scales and learning how all those notes/scales fit together, and developing good, precise technical chops. I'm working towards getting a couple of major time-suckers out of my life right now (building a business and solidifying our family future - where we want to live, etc.) Once that's all resolved in a couple of years I might have some time (hopefully) to dust off the gear and sit down and play again. But right now my Fender Strat and Fender Twin sit in my closet. . .
