Remember this?

The feeling old thread brought up some memories. Anybody remember this "car"? Photo taken 1957...in front of the R&T offices. Bonus points (but no prize) for naming the "driver"

Nope, but he'd be flattered you thought so...

LOL, Len knows.

It's Stan Mott's Cyclops. Stan was an awesome cartoonist whose work appeared quite a bit in Road & Track magazine. He created it as a spoof.

Many famous people have sat in and been photographed in the Cyclops. Including me! It has been in the Road & Track reception area for many years now. I saw it while I was visiting that office 10 years ago.

I can't take that much credit, I'm just good at the innernets

The most famous of the picture of the Cyclops, I think, was the one that was taken right before it was retired to the R&T lobby. It was of a couple of famous F1 drivers, as I recall. If your so good with your innernets machine, try to find that one!

I have an R&T mag from the 60's with a full road test, as well as a "projected" acceleration graph based on the optional 427cid engine.

The road test (by Henry Manney, I think?) decribes a quirky feature with the steering. It's a 1/2 turn lock-to-lock, and if you go over that it starts turning the other way

Bingo Guys! I suppose Len get the award, by guessing Stan first. "The"?

Stan still IS a great cartoonist. He & I have been in touch for years...He's currently living in Germany, working on a graphic novel that is loosely based on his years as a live-aboard Yachtie...first he explored the Med, then crossed the Atlantic to the Caribbean...

Another tidbit? Stan circumnavigated the globe...on a go-kart. I kid you not.

FYI, PWD, change the name of the pic you post in the future. It was a dead givaway. (stan1957cyclops). Googled it and the first link to me here: http://oldfords.org/Cyclops_home.htm

I imagine the others have done the same.
