Tabbydoll & I both suggesting you look at antique watches...it IS an option. I suggest you not ignore it. But like the old pre bumpercar 911, perhaps not best for daily use. Best for "special occasions". Dig?

I bought my wife a White Gold and diamond Longines.
This was the most beautiful ladies watch I could find. Bought it while I was in Switzerland one trip (my wife is Swiss so I visit frequently) Description: Round face with diamonds all around the bezel. White gold band and case. White face. It is like this example, except with a white face:

In my experience, the mall stores generally aren't very competitive on higher end watches. Find a good specialized jeweler that is authorized in the brand of watch you are interested in.
I bought my wife a very nice Movado at an excellent jewelry store in the Cayman Islands a few months ago - price was nearly half the U.S. price. Could be worth a ticket to Georgetown? Better yet, take your wife there and give her a watch at a nice restaurant while watching the sun set in the Caribbean...

Got my gf a Baume & Mercier, you can occasionally find them at Costco for about $700 in stainless steel. Unfortunately, I paid much more but I wanted a special color combo.
They have a quarts movement and a real crystal, um crystal and they look stunning. People will stop in mid converstion to tell you you have a nice watch. This picture doesn't do it justice, in person they tend to look like they cost about 4-5k. She will enjoy it the rest of her life and you will feel like a god seeing it on her wrist. Look at the Hampton collection. Best of luck.

Check out TimeZone.com brand forums and under the "Community" section see "Sales Corner" for watches offered under $5k and "TZ Showcase" for watches over $5K.
Link: http://www.timezone.com/ There are many reputable sellers and probably some not so reputable as well, just like any other marketplace. You'll find some good prices on watches and some interesting watches too. Best, Kurt |

I love watches, but just can't bring myself to spend big bucks on the high end time pieces. My personal favorite is the Citizen Eco Drives... hard to beat for <$500 and they never need a battery.

About $1500 gets a nice Vintage Rolex Stainless Ladies Date. Rugged and elegant at the same time. Most new watches under $1000 are disposable.
