As always, there may be more than one side to the story. Let's see how all this unfolds.
From this link: http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2007/09/city-officials-.html Because the director didn't choose the locations until a few days before they were scheduled to film, Block says the company didn't have time to get the required approvals from local residents who would have been inconvenienced during the filming. According to the same source, they actually did have a permit to film but for a different day. A quick google search for San Francisco film permits leads here: http://www.sfgov.org/site/filmcomm_page.asp?id=33079 Amongst other things, you can learn that the Department of Parking and Traffic requires a four day heads up to help with traffic control, and that local residents have to be notified at least 72 hours ahead of an event. This unfortunate event may be the result of poor planning on the director's behalf and San Francisco bureaucrats sticking to written policies. / J

I am a California native and lived in the city for 4 years while going to podiatry school. SF is a great place to live, but you must confess they have some looney tunes ideas from far left politicians on both the state and frederal stages. I suppose you voted for some of the worst ones if you live where I imagine you do, so I don't have to guess which side you come down on re the Mayor violating state law because he did not agree with it(gay marriage) or SF State banning military recruiters from a job fair and then crying about the possibility of losing federal funding. Quote:
Danimal, you are dead right. From about the mid '70's California has been declining in my eyes. Both from the urban sprawl, to the rude individuals, both the land and the people have been going to crap. People out here do not give a rat's ass about their fellow man. Here is an example for you. When I first moved back to the Sacramento area from Texas, I was out doing housecalls in June or July. It was about 110*, and traffic was really backed up going N on Power Inn Rd, right at Folsom Blvd, for those familiar with the area. Took me like 3 cycles to even get to the light for the dual L turn lanes, I notice a car with the hood up at the front of the line. I get in behind her, and walk up. She tells me she has a dead battery, just got paid and is on the way to get a new one, can I give her a jump start. I pull into a gas station, and when I start pushing her car, some backwards ass ****er with Oklahoma plates on his car comes out to help me, and asks if we need jumper cables after we push it into the gas station. The 40 yo gal has cables, and while I was waiting for my alternator to put a little life in her battery, she tells me she was waiting over an hour there. If that were an old person, or if they had some little kids in the car, that would be big, perhaps mortal trouble. When I first moved to Conroe, Texas in 1994, I had this POS ford with used, bald tires on it because I was broke, fresh out of residency. Well more like a few hundred G's down from education debt, but that is another story. I get a flat and as I am changing it, 4 cars stopped to see if I needed help. One guy in a truck even offered me a beer from the ice chest behind the cab. It only takes about 15 minutes to change a tire, so pretty much if no one was sitting there in a car asking if I was okay, someone was fixin' to pull over and check. Toby, There is a reason that people say people from California are asshats. It is because a lot of them are, and it is getting worse, seemingly by the day. People react to stuff like this because they expect Californians(Really, people from LA and SF, if you look at the stereotypes) to do this because they have done it many times before. Toby, the original T-money

Toby, you just nailed what I like about the midwest. To many CA (and the other "enlightened elite") we may just be backwards hicks, but at least we still give a crap about our fellow man. Sadly, compassion, integrity, and morals are all ideals that are targeted by such people as being signs of ignorance.

Silly BVD-Racer, Fox is for kids. Try reading some grown-up news sometime, its better for you.
from http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2007/09/city-officials-.html "We were locked into that Tuesday," Block says, adding that he's sure the police could have handled the traffic problems caused by the production crew. But that's only part of the equation. Because the director didn't choose the locations until a few days before they were scheduled to film, Block says the company didn't have time to get the required approvals from local residents who would have been inconvenienced during the filming. "We didn't leave there feeling the least bit singled out," Block says. His crew shot generic streetscapes on Sunday, and then moved to a federal park where they filmed the men on Tuesday with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. "We are grateful for the opportunity to film a portion of the America's Marines commercial and documentary in the Bay Area," the Silent Drill Platoon says in a written statement. "Dozens of former Marines, parents and supporters attended the shoot and we appreciate their support."

Looks like the military got the day confused, but at least this time the location was correct.

I am a native Californian and while I would agree with Toby that Californians have become more rude and crude since the 70's however no more so than the average American.
Funny that you mid-western guys get all riled up when people stereotype you as a bunch of rednecks but as soon as someone stereotypes all San Franciscans as gay you jump on board. I have traveled all over the states and my personal experience is that every state has its share of a-holes and kind intelligent people.

I don't live in a backward a$$ state, but I wouldn't shed a tear if san fran was no longer a part of this great country. I don't agree with the ultra-liberal views or the acceptance of perversion that is evidenced in the leaders and laws of that city. Plus you guys stuck us with that diane feinstein *****. (typed in asterisks on purpose, trying not to swear).
I figure one way or the other it will be wiped it off the map soon enough. I suggest the normal people left in that city get out, just don't look back unless you want to be turned into a pillar of salt

Interesting anecdote: I was in Artesia, New Mexico many years ago visiting my grandparents.
As we were traveling down one side of a 4 lane divided highway, I noticed that people were pulling over to the side of the road. I asked my grandmother why. She said that there was a funeral procession passing by on the other side of the highway. I said, "so what? it's a divided highway, they are way other there going the opposite direction, what does that have to do with this side of the highway?" She said, "we do things like that out of respect". Wow. Kinda floored me. The thought of pulling off to the shoulder of a highway as an act of respect would have never occured to me in a million years. At the time I thought it was silly. Most californians would agree with me. As I get older I'm not so sure. |

Intentions are more true than actions. Ask for forgiveness and move on.
