Porsche 911's are the perfect family car at least for those with 2 young kids. I do have 4 kids, but its rare that I have to take all 4 of them at the same time and we have our SUV wannabe for that task. Otherwise, I'm in my 993, it does cause a distraction with the other little boys when I pickup from school and the other mom's do give me the eye (not sure if its of approval, disappoval, or jealously).

More and more, I'm thinking my '72S was a weenie car...If I ever bother buying a replacement, I'm thinking 425 horse V-8 and rear wheel drive. Yep, waiting for the retro Dodge Challenger to come out...thought about the current offering, but don't like 4 doors....

I like it! But then I liked the looks of the original. It was the biggest and most over-weight ponycar ever, but it had great lines.

I wish they would put stick shift in these cars. They all have something called CVT.
I don't want auto transmission.

I like the size of the 911, with the rear seat. Makes the car feel more spacious compared to a two-seater. Though I wish they would get the gas mileage up a bit. My Boxster does 35 mpg on trips.
If I'm going to pay 60 grand for a car, I want good gas mileage (just kidding).

My 12-year-old daughter loves it when her friends see her clicking the 5-point harnesses on when I pick her up in the 911.

My wife refuses to drive anything boring. She wants me to buy her a Boxster. She's worth it.

I understand your point, POP. Yet, at the same time, I've got to say that once you have kids, you realize that everything else in life becomes priority #2. Fortunately, my 2 yr-old loves riding in the "Smily Car" (up front, in a kiddie seat, just like BSiple & son). And I can't wait to indoctrinate the 3 month-old daughter.

Still, the wife and I had a big argument about this issue this past weekend. She thinks I spend too much time with the car and bike, and would rather I got something newer and more reliable/less maintenance. I reminded her that she very well knew of my vehicular sickness prior to marriage and was OK with it then, and that maintenance is maintenance--whether it be an oil change (somehow characterized as a time-wasteful thing) or vacuuming the house (somehow characterized as a good, useful thing). I may be willing to compromise on the amount of energy and time that goes into my hobbies/addictions, but I'm not giving them up. After said argument, she encouraged me to go on a canyon run with Slodave the following morning.

I have a Prius and didn't buy it to be smug or self righteous, but then I couldn't care less what inaccurate assumptions are made when people see me in it. I also have two 911s, three SUVs and a V8 diesel RV - same goes for all of them.

They all make sense and do the work they have to do very effectively, plus they are all fun to drive and the kids love them. Am happily married and the nuts are perfectly intact (no I don't need to check LOL).

Easy John. I said "usually", not always. Plus living in the UK you would be exempt from this "innaccurate assumption" because the Prius is just one of many cars available to you that gets good mileage and has low emissions.

Here in the states it's an old joke to call the Prius a "Pious". FWIW, I know some Prius and Insight owners who fully reinforce my generalization.

Don't be so quick to judge, I saw on TV that a prius will go over 100 mph... with enough drugs. Some guy named gore, I think.
