Same here. If I won the lotto tomorrow I could not stop working. Would slow down, possibly a lot but would still work.

I'm not ready to be around my wife that much. I am trying to trim my hours of operation down a bit but when you enjoy most of your time at work its hard to cut back.

I have enough in after tax investments that I should be able to make it without the retirement funds. If I really needed the retirement funds a 72t withdrawl can be done.

I am assuming withdrawing 4% plus inflation to fund my retirement. If the market does better than this, great, if not I may have to cut back on some vacation plans.

I was a construction manager for a highway and bridge contractor. 10 years ago we started working day and night. I was responsible for various projects that some were day jobs and some were night. I had to check on jobs day and night and that get's old pretty fast. I got burnt out and had no life other than work.

My wife plans to continue to teach a class or two at the local college. She currently teaches a four hour class that actually pays pretty well and she enjoys. I plan to spend alot of time golfing and pursuing some other hobbies that I havn't been able to do the last 10 years.

Many folks are unaware of a 72(t) withdrawal, and assume they can't touch retirement funds until age 59 (without penalties). That aspect is key to "Plan B" for me also if "non-retirement fund" funds/income prove to be insufficient. Another aspect of "Plan A" for me is having no debt...minimizing "required income" during this period.

Good God man ...you HAVE to keep HER employed!

A 72(t) is easily set up and managed by a financial institution of your choice.

Have to say how surprised I was when a certain 'ramp' didn't unload on you for falling into the unworkable 'trap' of investing/planning/allocating your assets and finding a way to retire early. According to him ...it can't be done. The 'boss man' will drain you dry and you will be left with nothing.
