My 3.2 Carrera vs 996 Turbo
Subtitle: The complete humiliation.
Lovely day yesterday. Unusually warm and sunny here in southern Sweden. Decided to take the Carrera to work. It is a 25 miles commute of which more than half is highway. In this case a part of the highway that is in good shape and typically not much traffic at all. So there I am, happy trolling along in my little Carrera, on my way to the on ramp of the highway, felling real cool and fast. Well, I am about to get degraded. Shown my place, as it were. A couple of miles before the highway I notice a silver car in front of me. Coming closer I discover it is a 996 Turbo. Man, those babies have a wide rear end! Anyway, turns out he is going the same way as me, out on the highway. It is just him and me now, accellarating out from the on ramp on to the highway. Not another car in sight for at least a mile. Sun in the back. No wind. Steady grip on the wheel. Focused. Determined. As we hit the highway he starts accellerating further. I am on his tail (not dangerously close of course) and it is like a classic duel. A showdown at dawn. He knows that I know that he knows...this is it. Passing 70 mph. 80 mph. 90 mph. I have the pedal to metal BUT I am still on his tail. I am feeling sharp. Unbeatable. On the edge. Someone to reccon with. Now, usually I am very cautious driver. My friends even call me chicken. I rarely exceed the speed limits and I really do not fancy driving very fast. Scares me. So, right about 120 mph I am still flooring it but decided to call it a day. Pretty darn satisfied I have held my ground all the way up to here. And thatīs when he kicked me right where it hurts the most. You see, at almost exact the same moment as I am about to let off the loud pedal he has, cunningly waiting for the punch line, decided to finally show my my vintage air cooled torsion bar place. At that exact moment I clearly see how that fat Turbo suddenly lower itīs wide rear even further to the ground and then...before I even realize what happened..he gone. Gone! Flying away! Leaving me so completely dusted I can not believe it. We are on the far side of 120 mph for crapīs sake and my right foot is almost pressed threw the floor pan! Those cars have pretty high back rests so I had not been able to make out the driver during all the commotion, but just as I am about to let off, seeing that rear end disappearing in front of me, I see a hand waving at me and a long blond hair appears from behind the seat back rest. So there you have it. If you are going to be completely degraded and humiliated - have it done by a young blond in a Turbo.

Ummmm...yes.
I drove one earlier this year. At 90mph, if you mash the accelerator, the car literally launches. Its as if its standing still. 110...120.....130.....and its still pulling HARD. Insane. No hint that you are driving a turbo. The power comes on like a locomotive. That PSM switch on the dash? Yeah, I think you had best just leave that turned on. |

Surely you did not think that your Carrera could hang w/ a 400+hp, 190 mph car past about zero-30 mph? It's OK. Power does not always=fun, but on an open highway that car is one of the kings of the Porsche world.
Don't ever try that with a Cayenne turbo, that will be even worse on the old ego.

I've had the insane pleasure of spending 2 days this summer at Mosport with an 02 996 turbo. All I can say is, what a car. This thing has more torque in 6th gear going uphill than my 72 does in 2nd, on a downhill, with a tailwind! I've heard all the talk of "no soul" or "character", etc. but I tell you, when you're going around a corner so fast your brains are leaking out your ear, you're not particularly concerned about "soul". You're concerned about your face freezing in a permanent smile!

speeder - get old and slow enough, and you won't be showing places, but you'll notice the looks of jealousy...
Nothing quite like pulling up next to the newest P-car, looking out the window of your rusty old 356, catching the 99x driver's eye, and saying "Nice car!"

this story has a much happier ending than the thread with you becoming a fluffer, if you have her pull over and wait for you, it could be a Penthouse Forum letter
Fun to get out there and see an impressive car get up and go though, you are about out of good days for fast driving, as old man winter crushes you to his bosom.

Thanks for your kind words! I knew you would make me feel better, acknowledging the fact that an old car driven buy an even older turd is not a winning act against a young woman driving an even younger a more potent car.
Even though I obviously knew the potential of that car, I just had to put it to the test. I wanted him (her) to show me and she did. As Tobra say, it was very impressive. All of a sudden - at 120 mph - I am like parked at the road side. Although this event does not match my fluffer thread it was still a classic potency shrinkage happening. Like being submerged into icy water. The result is expected.

This is where you should have "added" the part where you met her at the diner down the road, had a great lunch, retreated to the hotel next door.............

Ha ha! Great story.
She had you lined up in her sights and gave you both belts just when you were feeling puffed. There is a wrong place for everyone to be at a particular time, and this was just your day. Now go pick on some Fiats to inflate your ego again! ianc
