Spot on Thom.

Juan . . . really?!? . . "Ultimate"?!?

My first thought was, what kind of designer replaces structurally efficient straight tubes with arching bratwursts?

. . .a quick click to the web page gives:

No kidding. That thing is so obviously chock full of very bad ideas it's really hard to call it anything other than "ultimate marketing".

I don't know about bikes the way I know about cars but, my brother is a pro-racer and swears by them. And I know about my beer brats but not about bent tubes...

He's a dealer for many other frame brands (Kestrel, Colnago, Cuevas, ...) and (whilst he owns a ton of bikes) his favorite bikes for personal use are his Mrazek. This bike was a custom ordered bike that the client could not wait for.

Take it for what it is, its a heads up to a very nice bike that is for sale. I guess that all of us here are bike experts also ...

The traditional shape of a frame is based on making the most out available steel construction.

so... enter AL and TI and Carbon Fiber... you can do weird stuff with the shape where its stiff in the right places (HELLOOOOOO) but gives a 'soft' ride.

Personally not a fan of the frame, but somebody must be. Cheap Czech labor FTW.

Unless its 12.5 lbs, its not the ultimate.

(but I'll concede it looks like a very nice bike, I like the design)

tour de france riders will take their alu or ti frame over their carbon frame for the mountains, they don't care about the extra weight, they need the rigidity of the traditional frame

Carbon bikes are very light and quite cool but, in my personal experience, they crack.

For example, Kestrel stands by their product and provided you pickup the shipping charges they fix and repaint them but, how many times are you going to send back the frame to them?

Thanks for the link MichiganMat ! I have to agree with you on the weight. This bike is spec'd out with top of the line everything that's why I call it the ultimate...

huh? 'rigidity of the traditional frame'? there are an awful lot of compact geometry carbon frames in the pro ranks. i.e. not traditional and not AL and TI. regardless... pro riders ride what the team sponsor says to ride.

my point (if there was one) was that you can get away with non traditional shapes using non traditional materials.

Very good point applicable to basically everything these days (cars, bikes, boats, furniture, homes, ...). Sounds simple enough

Jeff, I heard the same thing about the car we love so dearly...... but, we would never say that. We use words like: thinking outside the envelope, marvel of engineering, engineering triumph, nothing even comes close (oops that's marketing )

Ultimate in bizzarro world, maybe - Juan , I think that the problem arises calling anything ultimate that you can't quantify. I suggest renaming the thread "He's stuck. Who wants to buy my brother's expensive bike?"

look at the tour de france mountain etappes
then count how many carbon frames you see...
seriously, i doubt you will even see one such frame

you won't even see em in the normal flat stages
carbon frames are mostly reserved for timed stages ( the solo runs )

bike manufacturers, indeed want riders to ride what they sell
which surprise surprise, is mostly aluminium frames as the bulk of their customers cannot afford carbon frame, or even titanium

now Lance Armstrong, had ti frames, after all, he was the top dog, he could afford the additional cost of ti frames
but it was painted in regular colors so that's not a sponsor problem

carbon fiber frames however do not even resemble a metal frame because carbon fiber requires a completely different construction technique

if you don't believe me, find the TDF videos of the col's, the normal stages, and the time stages...
i'm not making this up

I have to agree with you on that Jim. Never ever have a custom built product for a client if you don't have a solid agreement.....

So, how do I edit a title
