![]() i am not in the "clique" there so ...ownership makes no difference to me. Hopefully it will become less "cliqueish". Often times I feel like posting there is best likened to a new kid in school looking for a seat in a cafeteria..akward. |

I don't know how it is on RL other than on the 993 board. Those guys are a bit harsh on non-members, but I don't think they're snobby. Nothing snobby about owning Ferraris and 993 cabs. It's not really as DIY or track oriented as the Pelican folks. But there is such a sub-clique there and a few of the guys on there really, really know their $hit. Just because you have guys on there asking which dealer has the best price on oil changes doesn' mean there aren't a handful of guys rebuilding their own engines or doing track-side clutch swaps. Again, I really got my money's worth there. Pelican is super for the pre-964 stuff, but thereafter tech info here is a bit lacking.

For the right price, anything is for sale.
Remember what Francis said in PeeWee's Big Adventure- "My father says EVERYTHING'S NEGOTIABLE, PeeWee..." That being said, I think the price for Wayne would have to be a lot higher, because this forum IS his advertising. Its how I ended up getting parts from him- you are here, asking questions, find out you need 4 new johnson rods, and "oh hey- they sell them right here, and everyone says they are a good company". I think Wayne's price would be too high, so I am not worried about us. |

I never got Rennlist so their sale means nothing to me. I know how much work is involved in setting and managing up a small board though, so a big one must be a nightmare. If they managed to get it to the point where it was worth money and selling was a decent option then good for them.
If Wayne ever decides to sell PP lock stock and barrel inc the board then good for him too, he has certainly done the legwork.

I posted over there a few times when I was younger. I never really liked the vibe. I still look at the GT3 board occasionally for fun, but the 944 board is a mess over there. I don't really mind that they sold it. They were willing to put in the leg work and build the site into what it is now, they deserve some reward for it.

I like Rennlist, although I only frequent the 911 tech section (couldn't take anymore of the OT political stuff even before membership was required). There are some really great 911 folks there who don't use Pelican. I had a membership (for a year or so), but haven't recently...never had an issue whatsoever...good luck to them is what I say!

I guess Wayne would never sell Pelican or swap it for a spoon collection?

You can see all the forums which internet brands has acquired: http://www.internetbrands.com/ib/
Even though Rennlist is now in the same family as Scion Life, each forum should operate the same way they did. You will probably see less moderator oversight, more spam, more marketing probes, more advertisements, more meat head posters -crap like that… I’m sure the owners of Rennlist were offered a nice chunk of change to walk away. Hopefully the negative vibe from Rennlist won’t pollute the Pelican way of life. |

I never go over to rennlist anymore... I think it was kind of cold the way Ren left Stimpy out of the website... after all they had meant to each other.

I just don't get this antipathy toward Rennlist from some people here. The guy built a small business using a unique model, and has apparently been successful enough to sell it. I hope he made a good profit and was rewarded for the risk and hard work he put into his site. It's not like he tricked us into paying memberships.
You think Wayne's running this site from the goodness of his heart, just because you don't pay $17/year? No, he's trying to make a profit, just like Rennlist did. More power to them. Geez...nothing is free, guys.

The heavy-handed and biased moderation over there, blatant suck-ups to paying sponsors, vendor politics and drama totally killed my interest in it. Maybe this will represent a change in the M.O. over there. That'd be refreshing.

Anybody who can get volunteers to build up their business is great. Getting volunteers to build up the business, and to pay for the privilege of doing so, is awesome. Then, after making hundreds of thousands off of those people over the years, you actually sell the people, well, now that's brilliant. (And yes, he did sell the people. What do you think the No. 1 statistic the buyer looked at? The number of participants on the website). Laughing all the way to the bank would be reward enough, but then getting some of those "paying volunteers" who you just sold, to defend you, that's icing on the cake. Seriously, much props to them. Well done! |

David, no one was talking trash about the owners of rennlist, they were talking trash about rennlist, which is fair game.
I used to be a paying member but lost all respect for it due to the few asshat members who acted like they owned it. It turned into an electronic circle jerk with no technical information at all. I also resented the fact that they advertised for motor meister. IMO advertising for a rip off is almost as bad as being a rip off. Conspiracy to commit fraud. I posted one time and asked why they did that, didn't they know how bad MM was? i got slammed and flamed big time, evidently it was none of my business and i had no right even asking such a question. F them. I hope rennlist goes down in flames. |

Your point being...? I don't know if you're in business or what, but if you've ever told anyone about Pelican, you've done the same thing you cynically describe above. You've participated in the marketing plan. Loyal customers are worth money. You feel tricked or taken advantage of - it must be the business-owner's fault, right? He forced you to use his site. Have fun - I've said my piece.

The 964 Turbo forum is good, and it used to cost what $20 bucks to be a member? Not a whole bunch of $$ to have access to a bunch of DIY articles and knowledge base.
Now with that being said, I do find it humorous that not too long ago the thread that was posted earlier about Rennlist being sold. I guess everyone has a price. Bill |
